School Spotlight: South Oak Cliff High School (Dallas, TX)

South Oak Cliff High School is a 5A classification by the University Interscholastic League. The school is located in the city of Dallas, Texas, and it has a lot of pride and tradition. They are known for getting their student-athletes ready for the next level. Athletes like Dennis Rodman, Rod Jones, Darrell Arthur, and others are alumni of the school. The team is coming off winning back to back state championships in 2021 and 2022. The goal for the Bears this season is to “continue to get better and defend our title”- Coach Todd. If it’s on the practice field or under the Friday Night Lights, the players are hungry for the same goal of bringing back another Texas State Championship back to Dallas.

Coach Jason Todd is entering his ninth season as the Head Coach for South Oak Cliff High School. He has made stops around the Metroplex before arriving to the coach the Bears. The Defensive Coordinator for the Bears is Coach Kyle Ward. He has been on the staff with Coach Todd since he got the Head Coach position. Coach Domenic Spencer, a former player for Coach Todd, coaches the linebackers and is a Co-Defensive Coordinator with Coach Ward. The offensive staff is led by coaches Jay Walker and James Gish. One of the proud coaches on staff is Coach Michael Traylor. “He is responsible for working first hand to send a lot of these kids to college”- Coach Todd. This past season, the Bears had 11 football players sign to play Division I football at the next level. This coaching staff is one of the best in the state. Coach Todd loves his staff and what they bring to the table.

Here are some of the returners for the Bears this upcoming season.

William Little is the quarterback, entering his Senior season for the Bears. He took over the position during the playoff run and helped lead the team to the State Championship victory. He was named the Offensive MVP for the 5A Division II Texas State Championship game. “He will end up being a kid that will go to school somewhere”- Coach Todd. The dual-threat player can do it both with his arm and his legs.

Trey Jackson is a 6’6 210 pound multi-sport athlete, entering his Senior season for the Bears. An athletic kid with tons of upside at the receiver position. With the height and vertical ability, throw it up to him and he will come down with the football. He is currently committed to Texas Tech.

Brandon Jones is a 6’1 190 pound linebacker that flies all over the football field for the Bears. He will be a three year starter at South Oak Cliff. His sideline to sideline speed matched with his play recognition makes him a fun player to have on the defensive side of the ball. He is currently committed to North Texas.

Jaden Rowe is a 6’3 276 pound lineman that is entering his Senior season for the Bears. A very powerful run blocker that helped his running back reach the 1,000 yard mark this past season. His brother Jordan lines up on the offensive line with him. He is currently committed to Louisiana Monroe.

Jordan Rowe is a 6’3 300 pound lineman for this loaded Senior class for the Bears. A great built lineman that can do it all both in the run and pass blocking game. His brother Jaden lines up with him on the offensive line. He is currently committed to Louisiana Monroe as well.

Danny Green is a 5’10 185 pound running back returning for his Senior season for the Bears. He was the leading rusher, which helped lead the Bears to another State Championship. A very harder runner that is hard to tackle at all times. He is a fun running back to watch with his homerun speed and ability to lower his shoulder into any defender. His recruiting is starting to pick up recently adding an offer from Texas Southern.
