Evangel Christian Academy is a a private, Christian school in Shreveport, LA. It has two school, one is a K-8th grade and the other school is a high school. The K-8th grade school first opened in 1980 but the high school was added 9 years later. The school has amassed over 675 students and is a one of eight private schools that have been accredited to Caddo Parish. Evangel’s mascot is an eagle and the school colors are Red, White, and Blue. The Head Coach of the Evangel Eagles High School football team is Pastor Denny Duron. Coach Duron is also the head of Evangel Christian Academy, as his parent founded the school.

I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to speak with Coach Duron and hear what he had to say about his football team and coaching philosophy.

“Our coaching philosophy has a lot to do with our work ethic. We’re going to show up everyday and pay attention to details. We are gonna correct everything as were going to make these kids believe that there is great things ahead.”

Coach Denny Duron

With this work ethic put in place, the Eagles are looking to be a team to beat in the 2023 season. They return 9 starters on offense and 8 on the defense. Some of the notable seniors on the offense include OT Jacob Carpenter , QB Peyton Fulghum, WR Parker Fulghum, and OT/DE Triston Santoro. Parker and Peyton Fulghum are notable 4 year starters for the Eagles offense. Parker will also be participating in the Army All-American Game. Triston Santoro is also recently committed to Baylor University. On the defensive side of the ball they also have players like DE/RB Gabriel Reliford , CB T’ziah Glyenn, and MLB Damari Drake. Damari Drake has also been a notable standout because he has been a starter for his team since 8th grade. With talent like this led by a great football mind like Head Coach Denny Duron, it’s quite easy to see why the Evangel Eagles will be a team to keep your eyes on in the 2023 season.
