SAINTS 43 FALCONS 37

The Saints are now 2-1 by beating the Falcons, 43-37, in overtime on Sunday. The Falcons were the favorites to win, but the Saints scored with less than three minutes left in overtime.

Drew Brees had an epic game. Not only did he surpass Brett Favre to become the NFL career completions leader, but he also scored two rushing touchdowns, including the game winner, and threw for three others. Brees finished 39-of-49 for 396 yards. On one play Brees scrambled, saw an opening and ran for the end-zone. Suddenly there were two Falcons on him and I cringed at what would come next, but he spun like a seasoned running back and somehow broke free running in for the TD. WHAT JUST HAPPENED?????

The Saints had help on offense from Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas with Kamara providing 66 rushing yards on 16 carries and 15 receptions for 124 total yards, and Thomas had 10 receptions for 129 yards.

I must however give Falcons QB Matt Ryan his due as he went 26-of-35 for 374 yards and five touchdowns. He surpassed Joe Montana for the most touchdowns scored against New Orleans in NFL history. Thankfully that wasn’t enough.

Calvin Ridley, who was very scary,  led the Falcons’ offense with 146 yards on seven receptions and scored on three of Matt Ryan’s five touchdown passes while Julio Jones was able to get 96 yards on five catches.

The Saints will visit New York to take on the Giants (1-2), who are no longer win-less after beating the Texans, 27-22.

GEAUX SAINTS!
