It’s truly impressive how much of a difference a change of scenery can make in the game of football. Going into this season, Crowville Junior High had two players that had didn’t want to play football because of the poor experiences they had at previous schools. Now after the season, those same two players move on as two of the football team’s main leaders, now continuing that journey next season at Franklin Parish High School.
The first of these players is Colton Allen, and you can read his story in full here. But after Colton joined the football team and realized he loved it at this new school, he convinced his friend Cam Lance to try it out too. Just like Colton, Cam found a renewed passion for the game at Crowville, leading to him participating in our Junior High All-American Game.
Cam tried football for the first time 2 seasons ago at his previous school, where he played quarterback. The entire environment around the team there just didn’t work for him, and when he transferred to Crowville last year, he had no interest in trying the game again. But Colton did convince him, and everything was different this time around. The culture and environment around the team was much healthier in Cam’s eyes and he found a new set of positions to play that were a better fit for his skillset.
Cam now plays wide receiver and safety, where his focus on speed and superior catching ability on both sides of the ball has made him a great asset on the field. He’s a reliable weapon on offense and a threat to intercept the ball on defense, and his dedication to continue improving in that area shows the potential he has as he continues to grow at the high school level. He enjoys playing both positions, and his goal is to play on both sides of the ball at high school.
Cam has grown to really enjoy playing football and we can’t wait to see where his journey goes at the as he moves to high school, but his main sport has always been baseball. He primarily pitches, where he has a solid curveball and change up in his repertoire. As of now, baseball is the sport he’s actually mainly looking to play at the college level, not football. Who knows though: never count the game of football out. Whatever ends up happening to Cam in his high school sports journey, we’ll be cheering him on every step of the way.
