Rising Star: Dekai Butler

Dekai Butler is a 14 year old running back for North Iberville High School from Maringouin, Louisina. Measuring at 5’5, 120 lb., and with a GPA of 3.5, he most recently participated in the Gridiron Football All-American jr. game.

Q: What inspired your love for football growing up?

A: My dad used to play, watching him is what inspired me.

Q: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from an obstacle?

A: To not give up.

Q: Do you have a favorite NFL team?

A: I don’t really have one.

Q: What do you think are your biggest strengths on and off the field?

A: My speed and agility on the field, and off the field my intelligence.

Q: What kind of music do you listen to before a game?

A: I listen to podcasts, I don’t really listen to music before.

Q: How do you balance being an athlete and a student?

A: I just really take my time. I had difficult times with it before but I got a tutor and that helped.

Q: What’s your dream college football school?

A: Florida State University

Q: If you got a chance to pitch yourself to the Florida State head coach, what would you tell them about yourself.

A: That I’m dedicated, just dedicated and ready.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about being a football player?

A: It teaches you how to not give up.

Q: What’s your favorite activity outside of football?

A: Track, I run the 100 hurdles and the 200m races.

Q: What’s your favorite memory from playing football.

A: When my team won a super bowl.

Q: Do you have any current goals at the moment?

A: I run a high four for my forty time and I want to lower it even more.

Q: What’s your go to pre-game snack before a game?

A: I try not to eat a lot before the games, so after breakfast that’s really it. I might do like a smoothie or something.
