RAGIN’ CAJUNS COUTTS NAMED LSWA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns sophomore punter Steven Coutts earned his first accolade of the 2016 season when he was unanimously selected on Monday as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Special Teams Player of the Week.

Coutts, a native of Brisbane, Australia, earned his first weekly honor in a vote by a statewide panel of media members.

Coutts posted a gross and net average of 48.3 yards on seven punts in Louisiana’s 37-31 double overtime loss at New Mexico State on Saturday. He placed four punts inside the NM State 20-yard line and recorded two punts of over 50 yards in the Sun Belt Conference game, highlighted by third-quarter, 64-yard boot that was downed at the NM State 6.

He added punts of 52, 49, 49, 49, 44 and 31 yards against the Aggies to boost his season average to 44.3 yards on the season (20th among FBS punters), with his season net average (43.5) ranking eighth in the nation.
