The Plaquemine Green Devils were able to achieve a dominant, 61-28 win over St. Michael. The Green Devils now sit at 6-1 on their season, and St. Michael now falls to 4-3 on their season.
In tonight’s match-up, there were two good teams with playoff hopes looking to dominate one another. The entire first half was an even matched game as the two teams took turns scoring TDs. QB, Brock Hamilton was able to be the first player on the board for St. Michael, but the TD was met immediately with one from Dejon Beloney.
The rest of the first quarter was silent, as both teams were committed to the run. Towards the end of the 2nd, John Martinez had a great run to put St. Michael back on top. He was a huge factor for his team and their offense’s ability to consistently move the ball. Sadly, he got injured on the next possession and was out for the remainder of the game. This could have been a key factor in turning the game around as Martinez looked like a problem for Plaquemine in the early-going.
After a TD from St. Michael, Plaquemine scored almost immedietly after with a TD from Tyrese Mosby. From this point on, the Green Devils started to go on a massive run and they did not look back after that.
Coming out of the half, the Green Devils were committed to their fast, no-huddle, offense and continued running that offense until they felt as if they had a comfortable lead. Another TD from Tyrese Mosby early in the 3rd was able to key this run alive, as he was and has been one of the team’s star players this season.
After his 2nd TD of the game, in the next possesion, Tyrese Mosby was able to find his way back into the end zone. Finding himself with three rushing TDs in only 3 quarters. Other key players for this offense were QB Nicholas Victorian, WR John Walker, Derion Bosley, Cameron Rogers, and Dajon Baloney. More about each of these players and their contributions later.
As John Martinez was injured, Nathan Saylor stepped up in his role for the remainder of the game. He was able to find his way to the end zone later in the 4th. Other key contributors for St. Michael were Johnny McCarthy, who had many key possession catches and Brock Hamilton.
In total, Tyrese Mosby was able to score 4 rushing touchdowns for him team. Dajon Baloney had a receving touchdown, Darrell Tate had two touchdowns, Cameron Rogers had an interception that he pitched to Derion Bosley on the play in order for him to score, and Nicholos Victorian had multiple passing TDs for his team. In total, this was a good all around win for the Green Devils
After the game, I was able to talk to Coach Williams
“It was it was a little slow at first, obviously, but like I said, that’s a quality football team. That’s a good coached football team, they’re going to be what they’re supposed to be, when they’re supposed to be there. So it was just weathering the emotional storm of being able to get back and, our type of ball, which is fast football, and we came out on the top.”
Coach Williams when asked how he though they played
“Honestly, that’s what we talk about. We got the period of practice where we go hard towards the end, we call it the second half. It’s just coming out of halftime with more fire than you came out at the beginning of the game, a lot of teams don’t take that approach.”
Coach Williams when asked how they were able to maintain 2nd half dominance.
“We’re gon’ get back to work.”
Coach Williams when asked what can we expect to see next week
