Many’s Fierce Defense Stifles Arch Manning and The Newman Greenies 25-17

Two of the best undefeated teams in the state went head to head as the Newman Greenies made the five hour trip up to Many High School in front of a packed house to take on the Tigers. In this matchup of two heavyweights, it was headlined by Texas quarterback commit Arch Manning for the Greenies and USC linebacker commit Tackett Curtis for the Many Tigers. Entering this matchup, it was the high powered Greenies offense led by Manning that was averaging 44 points per game against arguably the toughest defense in the state led by Curtis, which has allowed only one touchdown through three games.

Unfortunately for the Greenies, they would miss a big weapon in Texas tight end commit Will Randle, who tore his ACL last week in the 54-52 win against Benton. Not having the best tight end in the state for the Greenies certainly did not help them in going up against this steel curtain of a Many defense and it showed during the course of the game. Manning had trouble getting in rhythm all night long and could not get anything going offensively as he did not have his first pass completion until the second quarter. Manning would only complete eight of 20 passes for 80 yards throughout the entire game, but Manning did enough to give his team a chance to compete in this football game as two of his eight completions went for touchdowns. Still, Manning had trouble staying upright as he was sacked four times during the contest by Curtis, fellow four star teammate Tylen Singleton, and company.

The Tigers held a 15-10 lead at halftime and was able to limit the high flying Greenies offense even more throughout the game as the Tigers’ running game featuring Jamarlyn Garner and Jeremiah James combined for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Despite the Tigers controlling the football game from the opening kickoff, the Greenies still had a chance to tie the football game as their defense stopped the Tigers on fourth down and gave its offense a chance to drive 99 yards to potentially tie the football game late. However, the Tigers’ defense started the football game on a high note and finished it in the same way stopping the Greenies’ offense and holding on to a 25-17 victory.

The Many Tigers continue their undefeated season and does move on to 4-0. Meanwhile, the Newman Greenies fall to 3-1. Next week, the Tigers go on the road to take on Mansfield while the Newman Greenies go on the road to take on Pearl River.
