Madison Prep defeats Port Allen in their homecoming game 39-0

In week 6 of Louisiana high school football, tonight’s Thursday night matchup featured the Madison Prep Chargers facing off against the Port Allen Pelicans. Madison Prep entered the game with a 3-2 record after their shutout win last week against Mentorship Academy. Port Allen came into the game with a 2-3 record on the season after their 45-6 loss to U-High last week.

Madison Prep started off the game with receiving the opening kickoff from Port Allen. It didn’t take long for the Chargers to get on the board as their first play was a 58 yard touchdown pass from Tylan Johnson to wide receiver David Jones. After the Madison Prep defense held the Pelicans’ offense to a 3 and out, they tried to add another score to the board but were stopped by a Pelicans’ interception. Defensive back Sage Lockett for Port Allen was the one who was able to come up with the interception. The Chargers’ defense did what they needed to do to force another punt.

The Chargers’ offense were looking to score quick after the interception and they did. Madison running back Tony Lewis kicked off the drive with a 50 yard touchdown to make the score 13-0 after the extra point attempt was good. The Chargers’ defense showed up this game as the Port Allen offense wasn’t able to get anything going. The Chargers’ defensive line did a great job of bringing pressure and making the Pelicans’ quarterback uncomfortable in the pocket. This led to a big Chargers’ stop on third down, leaving Port Allen no choice but to punt the ball back to Madison. The Chargers were able to get the ball in great field position at their own 46 yard line. After a holding penalty pushed them back 10 yards, Tylan Johnson showed off his strong arm with a huge 40 yard pass completion to receiver Treylan James. With a few runs by Johnson and Lewis, Johnson was able to find the endzone again with a 16 yard touchdown pass to Semaj Pierre

After going up 20-0 early in the second quarter, all the momentum was on the Chargers’ side. The defense was able to shutout the Pelican’s offense throughout the first half. The duo of Tylan Johnson and David Jones was not done. Johnson tried to find his running back Keilan Sherman but after the ball was tipped, David Jones was able to find the ball and turn the play into an incredible 32 yard touchdown reception.

With less than 2 minutes left in the first half, Johnson was able to find his favorite target, Jones again for their third touchdown connection to make the score 33-0 going into halftime.

On the first drive of the second half, the Pelicans offense tried to bring a little life back into their side after quarterback Jarius Wright started the half with a huge gain of about 40 yards on the quarterback keeper. After holding a penalty on the Pelicans, the Chargers were able to get a huge sack on third down which led to a punt on fourth down. The Chargers’ offense looked to put the game away with another touchdown score, but instead the snap was fumbled on the first play of their drive as Port Allen was able to recover the ball. The Pelicans’ were looking to capitalize on the Chargers’ mistake but the Madison defense was able to come up with another huge stop. After a 10 yard sack on second down and an incomplete on third down, the Chargers’ defense did their job and forced another Port Allen punt.

Following a scoreless fourth quarter, Tylan Johnson was able to find receiver Hezekiah Dantlzer for Johnson’s fifth touchdown pass of the game.

Madison would go to win 39-0 to get their second shutout of the season in back-to-back weeks. The Chargers’ record improves to 4-2 on the season as they prepare for a tough matchup next week against University Lab school on Friday, 10/14 7pm at U-high. The Port Allen Pelicans fall to 2-4 on the season as they look to bounce back next week as they go up against Glen Oaks next Friday.
