LSU Will Play Purdue in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl

After the LSU Tigers lost to the #1 Georgia Bulldogs 50-30 in the SEC Championship Game last night to finish the regular season at 9-4, the Tigers found out what their bowl destination would be just a day later and that would be facing another conference runner-up finisher in the Purdue Boilermakers from the Big 10 Conference.

The Boilermakers, led by head coach Jeff Brohm, just finished their regular season at 8-5 and is coming off a 43-22 loss to #2 Michigan in the Big 10 Championship Game. Both LSU and Purdue are coming off losses against the top two teams in the country.

The Citrus Bowl is the next best option for the SEC behind the College Football Playoff and the New Year’s Six Bowl Games. Georgia is playing in the Peach Bowl against Ohio State for the College Football Playoff Semifinal Game. Alabama is playing Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl. Then, Tennessee is playing Clemson in the Orange Bowl.

LSU is familiar playing in the Citrus Bowl. In fact, the last time the Tigers played in the Citrus Bowl, LSU lost to Notre Dame led by none other than Brian Kelly.

This will be the third time in the last six years that LSU will be playing in the Citrus Bowl, but this will be the first time that LSU plays Purdue.

It was a great season for the Tigers that had a flat finish. Two weeks ago, the Tigers were number five in the College Football Playoff rankings with a chance to play in the College Football Playoff or at least a New Year’s Six Bowl Game, but two losses to end the season have derailed those hopes.

Now, the #17 ranked LSU Tigers will look to end the 2022 season on a high note with a possible 10th win to cap off a great first impression by Brian Kelly and the program.

The date of the game will be played on January 2nd at 12:00 P.M. CT in Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The Tigers will also start the 2023 season in Camping World Stadium where they will play the Florida State Seminoles.
