A couple of days after LSU got a transfer from South Florida defensive tackle Bernard Gooden, the Tigers got some more big help at a position of need by getting the top available player in the transfer portal in Houston safety A.J. Haulcy.
There was a late push by Miami, but in the end, the 6’0, 215 pound product decided to call Baton Rouge his home.
The 1st Team All-Big 12 selection was a big time standout for the Cougars last fall when he was second on the team in total tackles with 74 stops plus five interceptions and 13 PBUs. The five interceptions led the conference and his 13 pass breakups proved to be second in the conference.
Haulcy, who has racked up 259 career tackles dating back to when he started his career at New Mexico, joins a safety room that needs to be more productive than last season. He will be surrounded by fellow transfers Mansoor Delane (Virginia Tech) and Tamarcus Cooley (NC State) along with other players that are looking to see a lot of playing time including Jardin Gilbert, Javien Toviano, Dashawn Spears, and Joel Rogers.
