Diamond In The Rough: Kaleb Brown

Kaleb Brown is 5’9″ 185 pound linebacker out of St. James High School in St. James, Louisiana. Brown plays sideline to slide and has an incredible motor. He never takes a play off. Brown also possesses great covering skills and is an excellent tackler. He helped his team win the 2019 3A State Championship in Louisiana. He is also a multi-sport athlete as he is on the basketball and track and field team at St. James as well. Brown has been First Team for All-State, All-District, and All-Metro. He also holds a 3.5 gpa while being in the Beta Club at St. James.

At what age did you begin playing football and what motivated you to play this sport?

I started playing football when I was four years old. I played flag football. What motivated me to play was the fact that my dad played this sport all of his life. This caused me to fall in love with the sport as well.

What other sports or activities are you involved in besides football?

I play basketball and I also run track. I’m the point guard for the basketball team. I like to play video games and cook! My favorites thing to cook is pancakes and my favorite game to play is Madden. I also enjoy working out whenever I can.

Describe how you felt when St. James won the State Championship

That was the best day of my life! Words can not even describe the emotions that I felt. I have never been that happy a day in my life.

Do you wear your championship ring a lot or do you keep it tucked away?

I actually keep it tucked away! I only wear it for special occasions.

What would you say is the main aspect that helps a team win championships?

The team has to have that winning mindset. You also need to be disciplined in order to achieve a goal as a team. A team must be determined to win in order to succeed.

What’s your favorite thing about being a linebacker?

My favorite thing is that I get to engage in contact every play! Hitting my opponents is fun.

What are some goals you have for next season?

I would like to lead Louisiana in tackles and continue to be a great leader for my team.

How do you think people close to you or people like your coaches and teammates would describe you as a player and person?

As a player, they would describe me as a fast player who hits hard. As a person, they would say I am a good kid who always works hard and is respectful. They would also mention I am very loyal.

What type of things did you do this offseason to keep yourself in shape and hopefully win another state championship?

I did workouts with my dad and my teammates. I also lifted weights in the garage with my brother to stay in shape.

What’s your favorite thing about playing football in Louisiana?

My favorite thing about playing football in this state has to be the speed of the game. I believe that Louisiana has the best and fastest athletes. The fans also make the games awesome and hype.

What would you bring to a college team?

I would bring intensity, hard work, and effort. I also have a lot of leadership to give.

What has being apart of sports taught you about yourself and life?

Being apart of sports taught me time management skills and how to work hard for what you want.

Are there any new things you plan on doing differently for new season?

For the new season, I want to decrease the amount of missed tackles I make. I want to make more tackles than I did last season.

Do you have a favorite NFL or College Athlete?

My favorite NFL player is Tyrann Mathieu. He’s short like me but still plays fast and hard every game. I’ve been told that I play like him as well.

What would you say are some of your strengths?

My strengths are that I am fast to the ball and I can make plays on both sides of the ball. I can also hit hard and make hard tackles.
