Southern Lab responded with a 35-yard passing touchdown to Anthony Weatherspoon late in the first quarter, but Denham Springs quickly answered back as Horne rushed in for another touchdown. After forcing a Yellow Jacket three-and-out, Southern Lab capitalized on a much-needed interception, though they were unable to convert it into points. Southern Lab’s defense held strong, forcing another three-and-out, which led to a Jerry Bottley 15-yard passing touchdown, caught by Keenan Butler. The Yellow Jackets would answer quickly with a rushing touchdown by Brenton Paul right before halftime, Denham Springs held a 28-12 lead.
Southern Lab received the ball to start the second half, but the third quarter was uneventful, as both teams struggled to move the ball down the field. However, both defenses shined, repeatedly shutting down offensive drives. Early in the fourth quarter, Denham Springs gained momentum with a promising 20-yard run by Horne, placing them in solid field position.
Despite their offensive push, Southern Lab’s defense held firm, limiting Denham Springs to a field goal that brought the score to 31-12 with 6:14 remaining in the game. Southern Lab’s offensive struggles continued, going three-and-out once more, which left the Yellow Jackets with prime field position. Running back Brenton Paul took full advantage, rushing for another touchdown and extending the lead to 38-12. Southern Lab showed some late-game fight, returning the kickoff 45 yards and gaining 15 more on a Jerry Bottley quarterback scramble to enter the red zone. However, they were unable to break through Denham Springs’ stout defense before time expired.
In the end, the Yellow Jackets secured a commanding 38-12 victory over Southern Lab, showcasing a well-rounded performance on both sides of the ball.
