Covington Slides Past Mandeville

On November 8, 2019, the Covington Lions took on the Mandeville Skippers.  It was a cold night in Covington, Louisiana as the two teams took the field.  The Skippers were to get the ball first after the coin toss.  The Lions kickoff and the Skippers receive.  It did not take long for points to be put on the board, with a pass touchdown on the opening drive.  The Skippers take the early lead but with a quick answer the Lions strike right back with 93-yard kickoff return for touchdown by Chandler Washington.  With a missed extra point, the score is 7-6 Skippers.  On the very next drive, Mandeville answers right back with a rushing touchdown this time to extend the lead to 14-6.  That would be the end of the first quarter.  With the start to the second quarter the scoring would not stop there and Chandler Washington was not done being known in this game by coming alive again.  He gets the ball and takes it all the way for a 76-yard touchdown run.  The Lions would then go for a 2-point conversion where Quintez Laurent ran the ball in the tie up the game at 14-14.  After a fast start for both teams in the scoring department, the defenses for both teams came alive and did not allow a score until the end of the second quarter.  With two minutes left the in the second quarter Edgerrin Cooper rushes the ball in for a 3-yard touchdown to give the Lions the lead at 21-14.  That would be the score going into halftime and then the defenses would take over the rest of the game.  The second half of the football game would not see another score and the Lions would slide past the Skippers for a final score of 21-14.
