Delhi Charter High School (Delhi, LA) running back Deandra Young has committed to play in the 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which will be played at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, December 30th.
Young has had an outstanding career running the football for the Gators the last four years. During that period, he has been a bellcow for the team as he has 424 carries for 4,096 yards and 61 total touchdowns. At 5’7, 165 pounds, Young may not be the biggest back, but he is a really good football player. With 4.5/40 speed and a 455 pound squat max, he is a powerful back that has open field speed to score on any given play. He is an electric playmaker that has modeled his exciting playing style after Barry Sanders.
The Gators’ team captain has racked up a lot of awards over the years. In his sophomore year, he was named 2nd Team All-District. As a junior, Young helped lead his team to a district championship while making 1st Team and 2nd Team All-District on both sides of the football while also becoming the team’s Offensive MVP and making the All-Northeast Louisiana 2nd Team. Finally, this year, he saved his best season for last with a 1st Team All-District Offensive MVP and a 2nd Team Defensive Back mention plus several Beast of the Week and Aaron’s Aces nominations.
Currently, Young’s accolades have allowed him to pick up an offer from Louisiana Christian and college interest from Evangel University. The Delhi Charter running back will have another opportunity to represent the program while getting attention from more coaches at the upcoming Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game.
“I’ve been playing football as a running back since Kindergarten and I’ve never felt a better feeling. It doesn’t matter how smart you are or how much money you have. What matters is how bad you want it and how much you are willing to put in it. Football is my passion and I’m all in so to be playing in the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game means everything to me because all my hard work, consistency, dedication, passion, and love for football is paying off. Being invited to play in this All-American Bowl Game is an accomplishment, which motivates me to keep pushing!”
