Due to miscalculation over the last hour of voting and some technical difficulties, Jace LeJeune has made the announcement that both Pine High School (Pine, LA) WR DJ Garrett and Bunkie High School (Bunkie, LA) WR Cain Milligan are the Gridiron Football Players of Week 12!
Both Milligan and Garrett put on fantastic performances and both were truly deserving of being the Gridiron Football Player of the Week after they each led their perspective teams to the Quarterfinals.
Although the Pine Raiders were eliminated last night against the St. James Wildcats, DJ Garrett’s performance cannot be ignored. The 6’2, 175 pound receiver/defensive back had a performance on each side of the football that would have gotten on this list. In a 21-6 win over Kaplan in the second round of the playoffs, Garrett had 7 grabs for 193 yards and 2 TDs on offense to go along with 5 tackles and 3 INTs on defense. He not only took the game over on offense, but he did so on defense.
Speaking of taking games over, that is what Cain Milligan did for the Bunkie Panthers. With a team full of weapons on the team, Milligan was the X factor in the Panthers’ 39-14 second round victory over the Amite Warriors. Impersonating Randy Moss’ great performance on Thanksgiving, Milligan took advantage of every opportunity when the ball was being thrown towards his direction with three catches for 99 yards and scoring touchdowns on each grab. It was a perfect performance on a perfect night in Bunkie Louisiana as that performance punched the Panthers’ ticket to the Quarterfinals where they would eventually defeat the Jewel Sumner Cowboys 14-12.
This is the first time that two players have been awarded Co-Players of the Week for Gridiron Football. Both Cain Milligan and DJ Garrett will be receiving a letterman jacket patch that says Gridiron Football Player of the Week, a video interview with Jace and their coaches talking about their performance, and finally, both will be automatically in the running for Gridiron Football Player of the Year!
