Beckwith Named Senior of the Week by Senior Bowl

BATON ROUGE – LSU senior linebacker Kendell Beckwith was named the Reese’s Senior Bowl Senior of the Week on defense after earning a career-high 15 tackles in last week’s 45-10 victory over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Baton Rouge.

Beckwith, a Clinton, Louisiana, native earned 12 of those 15 tackles in the first half alone against the Golden Eagles, as the Tigers went into halftime tied at 10-10 before scoring 35 unanswered points in the second half. Beckwith and the Tiger defense held a high-powered offense to just 242 total yards by the end of the game, as he earned his seventh double-digit tackle contest of his career and second of the season.

The East Feliciana High School product has been a staple of the LSU defense during his stellar four-year career, as in 2016 he not only leads the team in tackles but ranks second in the league averaging 10.0 per game with 60 total on the season. In his final year he has helped the team produce one of the finest defensive efforts in recent history in the team’s six touchdowns allowed through six games of the 2016 season, the fewest given up in FBS.

LSU returns to action on Saturday night, hosting the Ole Miss Rebels at 8 p.m. inside Tiger Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
