Archbishop Rummel has been known for some great defensive back play and once again, another one of their players will be playing football at the next level as 2024 safety Darrius Davis recently announced that he was going to commit to play for the Stanford Cardinal.
“It’s the best of the best and you really cannot beat it. The people there are also some of the coolest and unique people I’ve met.”

It was not only the people at Stanford that attracted the Louisiana native to join the Pac-12, but it was also the defensive scheme that the 6’0, 190-pound safety really drew him to the West Coast.
“I’m excited to be that kind of boundary safety in their scheme. I feel like that fits me and my playstyle the most. I’m a good fit on what they are doing because I love to make plays and I believe myself to be a very high IQ player.”

The three-star prospect has been a ballhawk for Nick Monica’s squad as last season, he stuffed the stat sheet with 178 tackles, two interceptions, two pass breakups, and six TFLs. Davis even started his varsity career by showing that he is a tackling machine with he had over 20 tackles in his first start for the Raiders. Being physical as a downhill safety while also having the ability to break on balls in coverage makes him a versatile safety that can do a lot of things well.
“My biggest strengths are my downhill tackling, covering abilities, and instincts.”

Davis has produced at a high level in one of the toughest districts in the state of Louisiana in the Catholic League and for Davis, playing in the tough division will help him just fine in adjusting to major Power Five football.
“The Catholic league is very competitive and there is not much drop off in the teams. You play against people that are going to the next level every week.”

The competition and also the coaching have helped Davis become the player that he is today. As mentioned earlier, there have been plenty of talented wide receivers and defensive backs to play not only on Saturdays, but Sundays as well with guys like Ja’Marr Chase and Kristian Fulton that are in the NFL currently.
“The coaching I think is what helps us wide outs and defensive backs so successful. They put us in the best position to make plays, but always, strive to be perfect in everything we do.”

As a program, the Raiders have had their fair share of perfection when it comes to winning championships and Davis believes that for his senior season, the Raiders have what it takes to be back at the top of the mountain once again.
“I think if we stay consistent and stay hungry, we will be a state contender this year.”

Entering his senior season, Davis had a little bit of a setback as he suffered a torn ACL injury during this past basketball season for the Raiders, but he is working to hopefully get back with the team before his prep career is over.
“Recovery has been a bit of a challenge, but that was expected. I’m ahead of schedule and have the potential to come back in October. The biggest obstacle has been regaining my muscles to where they used to be.”

There is no doubt about Davis’ ability as a tackler and hitter, but there is also not doubt about Davis’ work ethic. While going through rehab and working to get back to the playing field, he is also working on his footwork and on his man-to-man techniques. In terms of physical ability and work ethic, Darrius Davis has what Stanford is looking for.
“My goals when I get on campus is to get to work. I’m a workaholic when it comes to something I love. I also look forward to meeting players and students with the same mindset.”
“Stanford fans, I’m coming to be a part of the turnaround and best believe we are. I can’t wait to get there and show you all what I am capable of doing. #FearTheTree.”
