(4-1) McNeese State Wins Against (1-3) SFA 17-10

On a rainy night here in Lake Charles, La, the Cowboys of McNeese da Stephen F. Austin in town to play in a conference match up. This was the 38th meeting between these two schools with McNeese holding a 20-16-2 lead in the series. Tonight’s win broke the five year drought for McNeese.

In the first quarter, the McNeese State Offesnce looked to be on fire when running back David Hamm had a 55 yard rushing touchdown on McNeese State first possession of the game. Later in the first qtr, James Tabery had a six yard passing touchdown to Parker Orgeron (son of LSU head coach Ed Orgeron).

In the second qtr, the rain put out the fire of the McNeese offence with a scoreless qtr.

The McNeese Cowboys came out after halftime looking like new fire was lite in them, however the offence faded out after a drive of 40 yards. After a few failed drives, coach Guidry went with a quarterback change and put in RS-SO Cody Orgeron (LSU’s Ed Orgeron son and twin brother of Parker Orgeron) in the game. In his first drive, he orchestrated a   48 yard scoring drive where the Cowboys went up 17-0 over the Lumberjacks.

In the fourth qtr, the Cowboys gave up their first points of the night after a fumble on the five yard line. then after the kickoff, the Cowboys fumbled the ball again which lead to another 3 points for the Lumberjacks for the final points in the game. The final score, McNeese State 17 SFA 10.

This was one hard fought battle in the “Hole” at Louis Bonnette Field. If you missed this game for the weather, the Cowboys will return home next Saturday night, Oct 6th at 6pm. and will play ACU.
