Woodlawn High makes necessary second half adjustments; dominates St. Amant 48-13.

Rickie Collins and company put on a dominating performance Friday night at Woodlawn High school on a cool 65 degree evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After trailing 13 – 7 at the half due to stalled drives, missed opportunities, and miscues by the Panthers offense, Woodlawn head coach Marcus Randall rallied his team at halftime and came out swinging at the start of the second half scoring 41 unanswered points after the break.

Utilizing their spread offense and as Coach Randall put it “bringing the big plays out”, the Panthers took advantage of the stacked St. Amant defensive box and gashed them man to man on the outside, gaining 215 passing yards through a Rickie Collins air raid / RPO offense. Coach Randall at the end of the game stated that the team is “still trying to find its identity” but it most certainly seemed like in all phases of the game, the Panthers were clicking.

On defense, the Panthers recorded 4 interceptions 2 of which were returned for touchdowns (Devin Boyd, Troy Washington and Dezaray Delmar) as well as two fumble recovery’s (Eddie Powell and Dawaun Harris) . The Panthers on special teams also recorded three 40+ kick yard returns setting up the Panthers with favorable field position drive after drive.

With the Panthers hitting on all cylinders, St. Amant struggled to keep pace. St. Amant quarterback Cole Poirrer struggled heavily as well, throwing only 7/25, 114 yards, 3 interceptions and fumbling twice. An embarrassing loss for St. Amant, and a catalyzing win for the Woodlawn Panthers.

St. Amant will look to bounce back next week against Catholic. Woodlawn will travel to East Ascension seeking to ride their momentum after a dominating performance.
