What Rebowe Means to Nicholls

Last week, the struggling Nicholls State Colonels hired Tim Rebowe to be their next head coaching replacing interim coach Steve Axman. Rebowe is currently finishing an 11 year stint as an assistant coach at ULL. Coach Rebowe has many ties to the River Parish area and into New Orleans making the transition to Nicholls rather easy. Being from the area, Rebowe’s college coaching career began at Nicholls; he was part of the biggest turnaround in school history in the 90’s. Along with the turnaround at Nicholls, Rebowe has had a dynamic involvement in the turnaround ULL has experienced since the hiring of head coach Mark Hudspeth. What is happening at ULL is awfully special, it is no shock that Nicholls hired someone from inside of that program. Rebowe is a great fit for Nicholls, but that will not make his job easy. Rebowe is taking over a program that hasn’t won a football game in over a year. Nicholls finished their season with a 62-3 defeat by the Southeastern Lions. The key to Rebowe’s success at Nicholls will be his ability to recruit the kids from that area. Louisiana has some of the most talented high school athletes in the country, reaching those kids is a necessity for a successful Louisiana program. Unfortunately, the kids from that area have been funneled into Tulane the past few years because of the phenomenal job Curtis Johnson is doing there. Rebowe does have the enthusiasm and knowledge necessary for the program to do a complete 180, his progress will be something fun to keep an eye on the next few seasons. Being a man of great integrity, Rebowe is “finishing what he started” at ULL by completing the season there with his team.
