Caleb Cunningham is a 6’3″ 185 pound, wide receiver at Choctaw County High School. Cunningham is currently the only five star athlete from state of Mississippi for the 2025 class. He is an outstanding receiver who uses his height and strength to bully defenders guarding him. Caleb is a serious player that has received a plethora of attention from top universities across the United States. He is a clear power five athlete that has only finished his sophomore football season. With plenty of room to further develop, Caleb is an athlete worth keeping an eye on for years to come. I was able to talk to Caleb about his football career so far, as well as his plans for the future.
Q: When did you start playing football?
I started to play football at a very young age, probably five or six years old.
Q: Do you play any sports other than football?
I also play basketball, I can play all 5 positions on the court.
Q: What is one of the biggest challenged you’ve faced playing football, and how did you overcome that?
For a while I did not get to start, but when I finally got my chance to play I was able to show what I could do and I became a starter.
Q: What is your favorite part about playing wide receiver?
As a wide receiver, I enjoy going up to get the football on a defender. I like having the opportunity to beat the man across from me on every down.
Q: What is something you have learned from football so far?
You always have to work harder than the guy next to you. You have to work hard and try at everything you do in life.
Q: Whether it is a current or former player at your position, who do you look up to on the football field?
I really enjoy watching DK Metcalf. I think he is one of the best receivers in the league. He is a bigger guy that uses his size as an advantage against all corners.
Q: What strengths do you believe you have that can make you an impact athlete at the next level?
I am not afraid to use my size and strength to my advantage at wide receiver. I can go up and high-point a football if needed. I believe my hands are also a strength of mine. I am able to catch the football with defenders on me.
Q: How would your teammates describe you?
They would say I am a hard worker and a leader on the team. I am always serious in the weight room and on the field.
Q: What are you looking forward to this upcoming season, any specific goals for you?
I personally am going to be working on gaining some size, as well as work on my speed. I think I can shave some time off of my 40, while also gaining weight in muscle.
Caleb Cunningham is everything a coach would want in a wide receiver. He has the ability to lose defenders with his speed and agility. With his size and strength, Caleb is outstanding at bringing down 50/50 balls, and any contested situations. With two years left in high school, Cunningham does not plan on slowing down. He has the potential to be an elite playmaker with his build, hands, and quickness. It will be exciting to see what the future holds for this 5 star receiver out of Mississippi.
