Southern Pounces over Alabama State in Home Opener

The Southern Jaguars opened up their conference play this week against the Alabama State Hornets and also had their home opener. The jaguars pounced all over the hornets in an incredible 64-6 score. A good portion of the points made by southern came from Willie Quinn who had 4 receptions for 178 yards and 3 touchdowns. Quinn also accounted for 320 all-purpose yards.

 

 

Quarterback Austin Howard also performed very well with 304 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. One factor that played well for the Jaguars was the turnovers from the Hornets. There were 6 turnovers that night made by Alabama State, and 5 of those turnovers were turned into points by southern.

 

 

All parts of the Southern game came together into this outstanding performance, especially the offence. The defense also played an exceptional game that allowed all those turnovers by Alabama State.

 

 

At the end of the day, Southern had a good start to conference play, and a great start to play at home in Baton Rouge. Southern looks to continue that success as they travel to Alabama A&M on the 24th and then to Jackson State on October 15th. If the game from the jaguars continues like it did tonight, then we should see an exciting season from southern.
