Rising Star: WR/S Mi’Kael Alexander, Ferriday Junior High (Ferriday, LA)

Standing at 5’9″ and 125 pounds, Mi’Kael Alexander is a wide receiver and safety for Ferriday Junior High out in Ferriday, Louisiana and will be going to Ferriday High School. In our Gridiron Football Junior High All-American Bowl Game this past December, Alexander played for Team Central with his brother, Malcolm. Alexander is known for being not just a good and true leader, but an even better teammate. This past week, I had the good fortune of speaking with Mi’Kael.

Q: Why do you play the game of football?

“I like how the game is, I have fun playing it. I enjoy it a lot.”

Q: Where do you see football going in your life?

“I feel like I can make it somewhere with football. I see myself making it to the NFL.”

Q: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned through playing football?

“You are going to play some competitive people. One time, I was running a go route as a receiver, and the safety came down and hit me hard. I never been hit like that before. He showed me he can really compete.”

Q: What does football mean to you?

“I love playing the game. I have a real love for it. I feel comfortable when I get on the field.”

Q: What challenges have you overcome?

“I really like the challenges against my brother. That is always fun for me.”

Q: How do you balance sports with your other responsibilities in life?

“[When I have free time,] I work out on my own. I go to practice and come home to work out, doing pushups and the like. I’m always doing a lot of stuff to make myself better.”

Q: Do you have a favorite football memory?

“I played receiver my first couple games. My first game I dropped the ball, the next one I caught a touchdown.”

Q: How do you stay trained and in football-shape during the off-season?

“I work out, I drink shakes, run routes, and catch 200 passes a day. I have two brothers, they work out with me and we all work on our footwork together.”

Q: How are you looking to improve?

“I have to get bigger, stronger, taller, and I have to get faster. I want to be able to quickly get down the field. [And as always,] I have to learn the game more.”

Q: On the other hand, what do you think is your biggest strength?

“My ability to get touchdowns. I got big hands.”

Q: What are some goals you’ve set for yourself?

“For when I go to high school, I want to get two touchdowns, 200 yards, and 20 receptions [in a game as a freshman].”

Q: Do you try to model your game after any players, pro or collegiate?

“CeeDee Lamb. He’s not the fastest, but he can get the ball. He can separate himself. I’m just like him.”

Q: Do you consider football to be more physically challenging, mentally challenging, or both?

“A bit of both. You have to know how to think football, but also get physical with it.”

Q: What is an interesting fact about you that the readers should know about you?

“I got hands.”
