Milestones on the Horizon: NFL Week 10 Set to Break Records and Cement Legacies

The 2024 NFL season has already produced historic performances, and Week 10 promises more as several players are on the brink of significant milestones and record-breaking achievements. From quarterbacks to linebackers, the potential to make history is across the board. Let’s look at the players whose performances this week could secure their place in the NFL’s storied record books.

Lamar Jackson – Baltimore Ravens, Quarterback

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore’s dynamic quarterback, is enjoying a record-breaking season with a league-leading 120.7 passer rating and 2,379 passing yards. His consistency shines, as Jackson has achieved a passer rating of 100 or higher in seven consecutive games and has reached 275 passing yards in his past five games. With a stellar performance on Thursday Night Football against Cincinnati, Jackson can join elite company. If he hits 275 passing yards and a 100+ passer rating again, he’ll join Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers as the only players to reach this milestone in six consecutive games. Manning’s streak lasted seven games in the 2012-2013 seasons and six in 2012, while Rodgers accomplished it in seven games during his remarkable 2011 season.

Moreover, Jackson could extend his current streak of games with a 100+ passer rating to eight, joining legends Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers. Brady and Manning each had streaks of eight such games, while Rodgers holds the record at 12 games. With Jackson’s performance continuing at this level, he could be carving out his own place among these Hall of Famers.

Derrick Henry – Baltimore Ravens, Running Back

Derrick Henry has been a powerhouse, leading the NFL in scrimmage yards (1,145) and rushing yards (1,052) this season, with an impressive 13 touchdowns. In Week 10, Henry could extend his touchdown streak to 10 consecutive games, joining an exclusive list of Hall of Famers like O.J. Simpson, Jerry Rice, and John Riggins. He’s already scored at least once in each game, and if he finds the end zone this week, he’ll match Todd Gurley’s 10-game streak from 2018.

At 30 years old, Henry is poised to break additional records for players in his age bracket. With 1,052 rushing yards, he could surpass Barry Sanders’ record of 1,126 rushing yards for a player aged 30 or older in their team’s first 10 games. Henry is also on track to join legends such as Randy Moss and Priest Holmes in achieving at least 15 touchdowns in his team’s first 10 games, a feat only three players aged 30 or older have managed. One more rushing touchdown would make Henry only the third player in history to achieve 12 rushing touchdowns in six separate seasons, joining LaDainian Tomlinson and Emmitt Smith.

Jared Goff – Detroit Lions, Quarterback

Jared Goff has demonstrated remarkable accuracy this season, leading the NFL with a 74.9% completion rate and ranking second with a 115.0 passer rating. Over the past six games, he’s set records with an 82.8% completion rate and a passer rating of 140.1, the highest ever over such a span with at least 100 attempts. Goff’s Week 10 matchup with Houston presents an opportunity for more history: he could become the first player in NFL history to complete 80% of his passes in four consecutive games.

Goff’s performance on the road has been equally impressive, with a passer rating above 105 in each of his four away games this season. A fifth consecutive road game at this level would place him alongside Rodgers, Dan Marino, and Carson Palmer as the only players to achieve this feat.

Amon-Ra St. Brown – Detroit Lions, Wide Receiver

Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown’s rise has been spectacular, with touchdown receptions in each of his last six games. His Week 10 game against Houston gives him the chance to extend this streak to seven road games, making him the sixth receiver since 2000 to achieve such a feat. The last player to do so was Davante Adams with 10 consecutive games in 2017-2018. St. Brown has become a key target for Jared Goff, and his consistency on the road is putting him in elite company.

Joe Mixon – Houston Texans, Running Back

Joe Mixon has shown incredible form in Houston’s backfield, becoming just the fifth player in history with 100+ rushing yards and a touchdown in five of his first six games. A similar performance against Detroit would make Mixon the third player to achieve this in six of his first seven games, a rare accomplishment only reached by Jim Brown and Demarco Murray.

Mixon’s four-game streak of 100-yard performances with a touchdown also puts him in line with the best, as he could join LaDainian Tomlinson, Terrell Davis, and Edgerrin James as one of the few to reach five consecutive games since 1990.

Travis Kelce – Kansas City Chiefs, Tight End

Travis Kelce, one of the most productive tight ends in NFL history, recorded 100 receiving yards in Week 9, marking his 38th career 100-yard game, the most for a tight end. In Week 10, Kelce needs just 79 yards against Denver to surpass Antonio Gates for the third-most receiving yards by a tight end in NFL history, trailing only Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten. Kelce’s dominance in the tight end position continues to set new standards and highlights his unparalleled consistency.

In Week 9, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams reconnected for their first touchdown since joining the Jets, and now they stand on the brink of surpassing Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown for the fourth-most touchdowns by a quarterback-wide receiver duo, including the postseason. With one more touchdown in their upcoming game against Arizona, they will tie Roethlisberger and Brown’s total of 78 touchdowns, a mark that exemplifies Rodgers and Adams’ chemistry and success as a pairing.

Justin Jefferson – Minnesota Vikings, Wide Receiver

Justin Jefferson continues his rapid ascent among the NFL’s elite receivers. Leading the league with 783 receiving yards this season, Jefferson could soon set the record for the most receiving yards in a player’s first five seasons. With just 103 more yards, Jefferson would surpass Torry Holt’s record of 6,784 receiving yards, a milestone that highlights Jefferson’s immediate impact and unmatched productivity since joining the league in 2020.

T.J. Watt – Pittsburgh Steelers, Linebacker

T.J. Watt’s pass-rushing prowess is nearing historic proportions. With 65 games with a sack since his 2017 debut, Watt could tie Aaron Donald and Chandler Jones for the fourth-most games with a sack in a player’s first eight seasons. A sack in Week 10 against Washington would be significant, as Watt has accumulated 103 career sacks and is just two shy of tying Jared Allen for the third-most sacks in a player’s first eight seasons since the stat became official in 1982. Watt’s relentless pursuit of quarterbacks underscores his importance to Pittsburgh’s defense and positions him among the league’s most feared defenders.

A Week to Remember

Week 10 of the 2024 NFL season is shaping up to be monumental. With Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry setting the pace for offensive records, Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown redefining accuracy and consistency, and defenders like T.J. Watt leaving their mark, these players are not only leading their teams but also carving their names into NFL history. Each performance this week has the potential to shift narratives, redefine legacies, and remind fans why football’s weekly battles are filled with anticipation.
