New Orleans: The Crescent City Kings have eight members that have been selected to attend the National Minor League All Star game that is held annually in Las Vegas. Coach Washington said, “I am proud of my whole team, but these guys really deserve the recognition they have been given.” The Kings fell against the eventual league champions, the Oklahoma Thunder in the playoffs. Being selected to the All Star game was OL Johna Austin, OL John Gustavis, OL Joshua Keelen, DT Trish Stephens, DT Mike Gorum, DE/OLB Shaun Jones, DE/OLB Steward Joseph, and DB Keywan Bullock.
Shaun Jones (6′-4″, 289 lbs) was recruited to La Tech University and eventually graduated from Nicholls. Shawn is a constant leader both on and off the field. Shaun has played for the Kings and has lead the GDFL in all three seasons in tackles and sacks. Shaun is an unstopable force on the outside.
Mike Gorum (6′-1″, 254 lbs) never was given the opportunity to play college football. Mike was a high school standout with his high motor. Playing for the Kings, that high motor and “Dog” attitude is contagious on the defense. Mike is the only player I have seen penalized for barking on the gridiron. As long as Mike is in the game, no quarterback is safe.
Steward Joseph (6′-4″, 265 lbs) played one season at McNeese State before returning home to help his family. Joseph is a punishing end off the edge. His speed off the edge is unmatched.
Trish Stephen (6′-4″, 368 LBS) is a mammoth of a man. Trish received offers to play at Nebraska while in high school. Trish is a leader in the huddle and demands his defense plays at a high level.
Johna Austin (6′-6″, 289 lbs) played three years at LSU before transferring to Nicholls State. In the 2016 draft, Austin was ranked as the 27th best Left Tackle. It is hard to mistake Austin when he steps onto the field. This gentle giant plays very aggressively and would throw defensive lineman around like ragdolls.
Josh Keelen (6′-3″, 285 lbs) played both offensive line and defensive line. On both sides of the ball, Keelen would dominate whoever was in front of him.
Keywan Bullock (6′-1″, 189 lbs) played at Arizona while in college. Keywan has played for coach Washington for the past three seasons and has been a shutdown corner all three seasons.
John Gustavis (6′-3″, 289 lbs) went to Western Alabama for college and was a four year standout. John is a mauler on the interior of the line and would just have his way with defensive linemen.
The Kings are the ONLY team in the country where their entire defensive line has made the All-Star game. The combination of speed and strength along the defensive line was the most dangerous lines in the entire country. The defensive line tallied over 200 quarterback hurries, 49 sacks, and 16 forced fumbles.
The kings offensive line was stacked with Austin, Keelen, and Gustavis. Defenses had to game plan all season on how to stop the dangerous run game of the kings behind this potent line.
