Kaden Williams Powers The St. James Wildcats Past The Avoyelles Mustangs 48-24 To The Division III (Non-Select) Semifinals

The Avoyelles Mustangs come in as the state’s highest scoring team and most effective rushing attack in Louisiana featuring a three headed monster rushing attack in the trio of Decareyn Sampson, Carlos Bazert Jr., and Josh Williams that have each rushed for over 1,500 yards this season. However, it was the Mustangs’ opponent in the St. James Wildcats during the Division III (Non-Select) Quarterfinals that stole the show on the ground.

St. James senior running back Kaden Williams also came in as one of the state’s leading rushers and showed exactly why on Friday night as he had 270 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries including a 60-yard touchdown to open up the scoring and a 74-yard touchdown run to give his team a 28-7 lead at the halftime break. His big-time performance continued to elevate his numbers as he now has 1,939 rushing yards and 38 touchdowns.

The Wildcats had scoring contributions from quarterback Brayden Williams, who completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to LSU commit Khai Prean and also its defense when Cyler Christmas had a 50 yard scoop and score early in the football game.

The big plays from the St. James Wildcats (10-2) catapulted themselves over the Avoyelles Mustangs (9-4) with a 48-24 win.

With the win, first year head coach LaVanta Davis and the Wildcats will take on the undefeated Many Tigers for the right to play in the Division III (Non-Select) State Championship Game.

After the loss, Avoyelles head coach Andy Boone announced that he would be stepping down from his position as head coach. Coach Boone has done a great job with the Mustangs leading the program to its first semifinal appearance ever in 2021 and first district championship ever this season.
