High School Football Recruiting: Oak Grove High School

Brantley Mathis played football for six years and is still deeply passionate about the game. He is now scouting high school level talent with Louisiana Gridiron Football all across the state of Louisiana. He hopes to make a positive impact on recruits and help them obtain their goal of playing football at the next level.

Oak Grove High School is located in Oak Grove, Louisiana. In 2017 they posted a 13-3 (7-0) record, and lost in the semi-final game against Kentwood in the 1A division.

1 Star Recruit

Positives

  • Creates turnovers
  • Good speed

Negatives

  • Arm tackles
  • Overall size
  • Doesn’t attack blockers

Overall

Kyle has a really small frame, and does not have great strength. He is good at creating turnovers and is quick getting to the ball. He likes to arm tackle and his technique needs work. Could possibly be a NAIA or JUCO prospect.

David Bruce    Size |3| Strength |5| Speed |5| Technique |6| Hands |5|   Overall |4.8|

JR MLB

Height: 5.11

Weight: 216

2 Star Recruit

Positives

  • Good eyes
  • Good motor

Negatives

  • Pursuit angle
  • Arm tackles

Overall

David has average speed, and plays with intensity. His vision allows him to pick up ball carriers quickly. He is not afraid to put his chest on and drive through the ball carrier on tackles. He has above average technique as well. Could possibly be a DII or JUCO prospect.

Wyatt Rawls    Size |2| Strength |5| Speed |6| Technique |4| Hands |4|   Overall |4.2|

JR MLB

Height: 5.9

Weight: 205

2 Star Recruit

Positives

  • Above average speed
  • Throws his body
  • Plays hard

Negatives

  • Overall size
  • Technique

Overall

Wyatt has natural talent, with above average speed. He should look to work on his technique and hands this offseason to become more well rounded. His overall size is not great, so adding bulk in the offseason would help. Could potentially be a NAIA, JUCO or DIII prospect.

Wendell Brown    Size |7| Strength |6| Speed |2| Technique |3| Hands |3|   Overall |4.2|

JR DT

Height: 6.4

Weight: 280

Two Star Recruit

Positives

  • Strength
  • Size

Negatives

  • Stands up at snap
  • Slow
  • Technique

Overall

Wendell has above average size and strength. He is quick off the snap of the ball, but is very slow in pursuit. His technique is subpar and he uses his size to beat blockers. Because most of his issues are technical problems, I think he has tremendous upside. He should look to improve his speed and technique this offseason. Could possibly be a DI FCS or DII prospect.
