Gridiron Football’s Top Performers in 2023 Elite Camp Series

Gridiron Football had four great camps this spring and the talent keeps on getting better and better as it has shown over those four events. Now, since spring football is starting for Louisiana high school football, it is time to look back on the top performers from all four camps, which include stops at Woodlawn, St. Edmund (Eunice), Jonesboro Hodge, and Rayville. See which players ended up doing the best at each camp. To check out the rest of the top performers from each camp, check out each camp article recap below!

Gridiron Football Top 10 Performers From Elite Camp Spring Series:

  1. Center High School (TX) 2024 RB Kaden Dixon:

Our number one performer of the Gridiron Football Elite Camp Circuit also happens to be our first Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game commit in Center High School (TX) 2024 RB Kaden Dixon. At 6’2, 190 pounds with 4.5/40 speed, Dixon showed why he was the most impressive performer at the Jonesboro Hodge High School Elite Camp by having the fastest 40, second fastest shuttle, longest broad jump, and being unstoppable in the 1 on 1 and 7 on 7 portion of the camp. Not to also mention, he is coming off a season in which he led the Roughriders to a 2,200 yard and 33 touchdown season. He is the total package and is a big time sleeper at the college level.

2. Dunham High School 2024 DE/TE Laramie Guidry:

Dunham’s towering 6’6, 240-pound defensive end Laramie Guidry was unblockable at Rayville High School with his quickness, length, and twitchiness. With a playing style similar to the likes of the Bosa brothers and Aiden Hutchinson, Guidry took over the linemen drills and one on one competition period of the camp. To add to an already impressive 40 time of 5.13 and 4.62 shuttle, there is already a lot to like about this Baton Rouge native. After leading the Tigers to a state championship appearance this past season with 13 sacks, 6 TFLs, and 7 PBUs, the sky is only the limit for Guidry, especially after receiving recent an offer from Marshall.

Dunham High School 2024 TE/DE Laramie Guidry’s combination of length and quickness made it almost an unblockable combination at the Gridiron Football Elite Camp Series this spring.

3. Episcopal High School 2024 RB Braeden George:

Another Baton Rouge product that separated himself from the pack at the Gridiron Football Elite Camp in Rayville was Episcopal High School 2024 RB Braeden George. Coming from one of Dunham’s biggest rivals at Episcopal High School, George showed why he was the Knights’ MVP last season at the camp tying for the fastest 40 time with a 4.53/40 while also winning just about every route as a receiver in the 1 on 1 position drill. After rushing for over 1,200 yards and accounting for close to 20 touchdowns last season, George has a chance to establish himself as one of the Red Stick area’s top playmakers in 2023.

4. Lake Arthur High School QB/WR Ray Levi:

At the end of last year at the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, a former high school quarterback turned wide receiver in Sema’J Hayes opened some eyes when he reeled in an outstanding grab that put him on Randy Moss’ “You Got Mossed” segment on ESPN. Lake Arthur High School QB/WR Ray Levi may be the 2023 version of Sema’J Hayes as he is a high school quarterback himself that made the most impressive catch by far throughout the first four Elite Camps with an incredible catch over two defenders as a wide receiver. In terms of upside and raw ability, Levi was very impressive. At 6’3, 190 pounds, the dual threat quarterback showed what he can do as a receiver with the ability to go up and snatch footballs in the air. At the Eunice camp, he also showed his speed by running a 4.71/40. With his leaping ability and athleticism, Levi will definitely be a name to watch for the 2023 season.

5. Catholic High School 2025 OL Ervin Smith:

There is a reason why Ervin Smith started last season as only a sophomore on a veteran offensive line for Catholic High School and he showed so when he participated in the Gridiron Football Elite Camp at Eunuce. The 6’3, 275-pound offensive tackle is naturally strong. Not only is he strong, but he has quick feet for his size as well. That combination has certainly helped him in his first year of varsity action. While being one of the top players in one-on-one competition, he also timed well for an offensive lineman by running a 5.38/40. Entering his second year as a starter, this Catholic High Bear will only get better.

6. Bolton High School 2025 QB James Lucas IV:

We should call James Lucas IV “Mr. Gridiron Football Elite Camp” himself after he and his dad James Lucas III have attended all of our Elite Camps this spring. However, he is not on this list because he went to every camp, but he is on it because of the form, work ethic, and improvement he has shown at every one of our camps. In fact, Lucas stunned all the coaches with the top two quickest shuttle times including a very impressive 4.07 time at Jonesboro Hodge. He has also jumped close to 10 feet in the broad jump as well. Lucas has great form and technique when it comes to the combine, but he also has a lot of potential when it comes to the quarterback position as he has made some nice throws, especially on the deep balls in 1v1’s and 7v7’s. With more camps to go on the Gridiron Football Elite Camp circuit, we are pretty certain that we will be seeing plenty more of the Lucas clan for camps to come!

7. Jennings High School 2025 RB Re’John Zeno:

Jennings High School has always been known for their running backs including having the Etienne brothers tote the rock for close to a decade in Travis and Trevor. Although there is not a third Etienne brother in the group, there is still a very talented running back that people should keep an eye on for the 2025 class and his name is Re’John Zeno. Zeno was one of the fastest players at our camps tying for the fastest 40 time with a 4.53 and having the third fastest shuttle with a 4.18. He also impressed as a receiver in 1v1s and 7v7’s. He will be expected to have a bigger role in the Bulldogs’ offense this year after rushing for over 1,000 yards in 2022.

2025 RB Re’John Zeno has what it takes to continue the strong running back tradition at Jennings High School.

8. Covington High School 2024 RB Justin Chatman:

In terms of having a do-it-all running back, Covington High School 2024 RB Justin Chatman is your guy as he is not only a guy that can beat you on the ground, but he can definitely beat you as a receiver in the slot. Although he timed well in the combine, what really stood out about his camp performance at Woodlawn High School was what he did as a route runner and as a receiver. Being able to beat you in so many different ways is a big reason why Chatman was our first Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game offer at our first camp earlier in February.

9. Catholic High School 2024 DL Blair Rousseau:

Catholic High School defensive lineman Blair Rousseau may not be the biggest defensive lineman at 5’11, 230 pounds, but he plays like he is 6’3, 300 pounds. Rousseau has the most incredible motor when going up against bigger offensive linemen and he also displays some incredible lower body strength. That lower body strength has not only helped him star at the 5A level, but it has also helped him place 4th place in the LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament. His quickness, motor, and lower body strength give even the best offensive linemen a handful when going up against him.

T-10. Acadiana High School 2024 C Jackson Hammond & Dunham High School 2024 DL Malachi Jackson:

To be honest, 30 other players that participated in our camps could have all made this top 10 list. The talent level we had in the spring was at an all-time high for our Elite Camps so because of that, I had to consider adding at least one more guy to the top 10 list. It was a tie between Acadiana High School 2024 center Jackson Hammond and Dunham High School 2024 DL Malachi Jackson. Both were very impressive at the St. Edmund High School camp in Eunice, Louisiana as that was the camp that clearly showed the talent level of the linemen. Hammond was a stone wall and hardly anybody went past him at the 1v1 session while Jackson put on an outstanding athletic display by running a 5.09/40 and 4.68 shuttle at 6’2, 250 pounds. Both players have displayed the ability to play at the next level.
