Gridiron Football continued our elite camp series by making the long trip to northeast Texas this past weekend, holding a camp at Westwood High School in Palestine, Texas. Over 30 players from all across Texas and Louisiana came to compete and get exposure.
The camp started with each player getting a chance to introduce themselves to the Gridiron Football community with an interview, followed by Gridiron Football CEO Andy Bryson speaking to the players about what it takes to be a college football player.

That took us right into the combine, where the best pure athletes in the group got a chance to shine. In the 40 yard dash Edgewood High School 2029 WR Jayden Terry led the way with a 4.56. Two other players ran below a 4.7: Westwood High School 2027 WR/LB Ja’Myrion Billups (4.65), and Rusheon Middle School RB/LB Bryson Collins (4.68).
The shuttle was led by Buffalo High School 2028 WR Deaundre Turner, who ran a 4.43. Three others ran a 4.60 or below: Mabank High School 2029 QB Brody Ingram (4.59), Ja’Myrion Billups (4.60), and Mesquite John Horn High School 2027 RB Josiah Gibson (4.60).
Finally, a staggering four players managed to jump 10 feet or farther in the long jump. Leading the way was Jasper High School 2027 DB Tyrique Wells, who managed to jump an incredible 10’5″. The others were Palestine High School 2027 WR Jayden Oliver (10’3″), Palestine High School 2027 RB/WR BJ Walker (10’3″), and Deaundre Turner (10’0″).

After every player competed the combine, they got 30 minutes to work with position coaches on individual, position-specific drills, intended to better their craft. Then, it was time to compete. The offensive and defensive lineman competed in 1 on 1s while the skill position players did 7 on 7 scrimmages.
The 7 on 7 competition saw a number of people showing their talent by making big plays throughout. The star of the show was Palestine High School 2028 QB London Brown, whose unique southpaw throwing motion turned heads as he threw two TD passes. The first touchdown drive saw Brown connect with his teammate, Palestine High School 2027 WR Jayden Oliver, on three consecutive plays: a big 35 yard play down the right sideline, a quick touchdown pass, and the two point conversion. Mabank High School 2029 QB Brody Ingram threw a TD pass as well, and the competition was capped off with two big touchdown catches. Palestine High School continued to impress, with 2027 WR BJ Walker making a big catch in the endzone. Finally, 2027 WR Nathan Ray made the long drive all the way from Walker High School in south Louisiana to play, and he took advantage by making a nice catch in the back of the endzone for the final touchdown of the day.

The lineman saw plenty of impressive plays be made in their 1 on 1s as well. The most fun matchup was between College Park High School 2028 DL Jordyn Grant and Marshall High School 2027 DL Breon Williams. Every time they dueled, their physicality and intensity continued to grow. By the end of the 1 on 1s, their shirts were ripped off of their bodies, and they needed new shirts for the end of the camp. They took the extra cloth and turned the red shirts into new articles of clothing, headbands and capes. The swagger was emanating from both defensive lineman, who left everything on the field by the end of the day.

The camp concluded with the handing out of awards. We saw 3 players get invited to the Junior High All-American Bowl Game, all of which were from Palestine Junior High: 2030 QB/DB Sincere McMorris, 2031 WR/DB Ju’Madre Murchison, and 2030 DL Trenas Hill.
“I didn’t know if I was going to come out here and my thing, but I did, so I got this and I’m very excited.”

We also had 5 high school players earn the honor of being top performers at the camp: Palestine High School 2027 WR Jayden Oliver, College Park High School 2028 DL Jordyn Grant, Marshall High School 2027 DL Breon Williams, Palestine High School 2028 QB London Brown, and Palestine High School 2027 WR BJ Walker.

We want to thank Westwood High School for their hospitality in inviting us to use their facilities and host a camp on their campus. Gridiron Football will continue our elite camp series this Saturday, April 26th at Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, LA.
