Grambling vs. Alcorn State

If there were one coach in Louisiana that would certainly deserve to be a candidate for coach of the year, it would have to be Grambling State Tigers’ Head Coach Broderick Fobbs. The ex Grambling State football star has done a phenomenal job transforming the 2013 struggling squad into the number one team in the West Division of the SWAC.

Saturday, Coach Fobbs had the biggest win of his tenure at GSU defeating the hot Eastern division foe Alcorn State 28-21.  Coming into the Saturday SWAC showdown, Alcorn State was at a solid 5-1, and undefeated in SWAC play.

The Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the early part of the first quarter. Grambling State quarterback Jonathan Williams lead the Tigers passing 13-29 for 222 yards with 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions through the air, and 77 Yards rushing on 15 attempts for 2 touchdowns. This performance displayed the tough and physical style of football that Coach Fobbs is working to bring back to the Grambling State Tigers football squad.

Although there is still much football left to go, such as the State Farm Bayou Classic versus the Southern Jaguars, no one in the media could have predicted this remarkable turnaround that Coach Fobbs and his staff have accomplished for the Tigers.

Next up for the Tigers is 1-4 Arkansas Pine Bluff, in which we expect Coach Fobbs will have his team well prepared for this SWAC showdown.
