One last thing to take note of before we kickoff another week of college football. Two of last year’s top players in the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game made an immediate impact for their teams as both Ellis Stewart and Chad Elzy Jr. scored touchdowns in their first collegiate games.

Ellis Stewart was a key piece on Cecilia’s state championship last season with 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns including the game winning touchdown against Franklinton in the state championship game. He carried that momentum in the 2024 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game where he caught two touchdowns for Team Tigers to help them get a win over Team Lions last year.

Last week, Arkansas Pine Bluff did get blown out by nationally ranked Texas Tech, but Ellis Stewart was able to get the first touchdown of the season late in the game when Christian Peters threw a dime in the end zone. Catching the football in high traffic, Stewart is going to be a standout freshman player to keep an eye on for the Golden Lions.

Speaking of impressive freshmen performances, former Ascension Catholic All-State running back Chad Elzy Jr. had his coming out party in an NFL stadium at Ford’s Field where he caught an 85-yard touchdown in a 34-24 win for the Kentucky State Thorobreds over Central State. Elzy finished with 136 all-purpose yards in the game instantly showing that he is going to be an immediate contributor. He made a lot of plays during his career with the Bulldogs with 6,701 yards and 101 total touchdowns in his prolific prep career while earning multiple All-State honors.

If it was not for the two-touchdown performance by Ellis Stewart, Elzy may have been a MVP option for the Tigers in the 2024 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game finishing with 69 yards rushing on 11 carries to lead the team.

These are just two of the players that epitomize what it means to be a Gridiron Football All-American and how there is a lot of great talent that is flying under the radar.
