DITR: QB/CB Ty’Kimion Ford, Slaughter Charter (Slaughter, LA)

The Slaughter Charter Knights are on the rise as a football program and have been very impressive in just a couple of years in its infancy. Located in Slaughter, Louisiana, the program is going into its ninth year of existence, but in that short time, the team has made the playoffs six times and has won two playoff games.

While playing at the 2A level, most of their key contributors have to play both sides of the football, especially their standout quarterback Ty’Kimion Ford. Right now, the Knights are on their most impressive run in school history with three straight winning seasons and Ford has been the starting signal caller for the last two.

The 6’2, 175 pound signal caller has led the Knights to a 6-5 and a 7-4 season. The dual threat athlete has done a great job of running the offense in the Spread Wing T formation. As a junior, Ford completed 76 of 144 passes for 1,250 yards and 19 touchdowns plus 78 carries for 418 yards and seven more touchdowns on the ground.

He followed that up by leading the team to their third playoff victory his junior season by completing 50 of 105 passes for 940 yards and 14 touchdowns while becoming a bigger factor in the running game with 138 carries for 816 yards and 11 more rushing touchdowns. With close to 3,500 total yards of offense and 51 touchdowns in two seasons, head coach Patrick Clarkston knows that his 1st Team All-District versatile play caller has been an integral part to the program’s roaring success.

“We’ve worked with Ty since his first year starting as a sophomore about him not just being sold on just throwing the ball when it is not there, but just being able to run. I told him that I have full confidence in him in doing that. This past season, he executed that very effectively during the games. He understood what we are trying to do. It is not going to always be open on those passing routes so we know we have that second option with him in using his feet.”

Having the ability to beat teams with his arms and his legs has given Ford an extra dimension to the offense, and he agrees that being decisive with either can only make his play even better.

“I take my time in the pocket, but I am fast so whenever I see the open field, I can take off. I also have a good connection with my receivers and my teammates.”

Going into his senior season, Ford knows that there are some other aspects to his game that he wants to improve on in order to help accomplish his goals for the season.

“I want to improve on reading the defense better and improve my football IQ.”

After leading the team to only its second ever second round playoff appearance last season, Ford wants to accomplish even more history going into his senior season.

“The goal is to win. My overall goals are to make 1st Team All-District and to try to make it to the Dome. Statistically, I want to get at least 10 rushing touchdowns this year.”

Ty’Kimion Ford’s speed was showcased at the Gridiron Football Elite Camp at Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, Louisiana where he ran a very impressive 4.53 time.

His athleticism, 4.5/40 speed makes him not only a weapon on offense, but a weapon on defense. Although limited because of how vital he is to the offense, Ford actually prefers playing the other side of the football.

“I actually enjoy playing defense more than offense, but I am going to do whatever it takes to help my team win.”

Last season, he was still able to have 19 tackles, a fumble recovery, and even an interception. It is his blazing speed that allows him to lockdown other top receivers within his own district.

“As a defensive back, I have recovery speed. If you beat me initially, I am going to just catch up with you.”

Whether it is playing on offense or playing on defense, the do everything athlete takes bits and pieces from some of the top players at the profession to help elevate his game.

“As a quarterback, I like to model my game after Lamar Jackson. As a defensive back, I like to model my game after Sauce Gardner.”

Leading a fairly new program to unparalleled success while playing multiple positions, having college speed, length and also, most importantly, a 3.5 GPA should earn Ty’Kimion Ford some offers.

Although he has not received any just yet entering the offseason, he wants to continue showing off his strengths while letting his playing do the talking.

“I’m respectful. I learn quick, and most importantly, I like to play football.”
