DITR: IOL Navarro Schunke

Navarro Schunke is a 6’6 300 lbs Interior Ofensive Lineman (IOL). According to 247sports.com, Navarro is the top ranked high school football players in the state of South Dakota. He attends Brandon Valley High School in Brandon, SD. Navarro and the Brandon Valley Lynx are currently on a three-game winning streak. Along with being one of the top high school football players in the state of South Dakota, Navarro is also a 4x state wrestling champion. He uses those skills and strength from wrestling to push defenders back and clear holes for his running backs and to protect the quarterback. We were able to talk to and interview Navarro.

Each season players look forward to something, rather it is playing a specific team or seeing how the team improved from last season.

“Something I’m looking forward to this season is to make a state title run.”

Every athlete has a moment where they fall in love with their sport. Each athlete has a starting point in their career.

“I started playing football when I was 8 or 9.”

IOL Navarro Schunke – When ask about what age he started playing football.

Having a strong support system is important. Having people that you can turn to whenever things get tough or even for motivation is important for young athletes. Having people that will always support you, makes you play better as a player.

“People that have supported me are my parents the most out of everyone but also every coach that I have had through wrestling and football.”

A lot of professional athletes played multiple sports growing up. Some athletes are good enough to even be recruited in multiple sports. Navarro is a 4x wrestling state champion.

“Currently I wrestle.”

Teams cannot win if they do not play as one unit or together. Playing football requires you to play as a team, not one individual can carry a team to victory. Being a good teammate is important to a team’s success.

“What make me a good teammate is the energy I bring to practice and how I push my teammates.”

Last season Navarro and the Brandon Valley Lynx suffered an early first round exit but this season in the last three games they have outscored their opponents 119-0.

“I learned that I need to come back stronger because of my surgery and I need to push myself and team farther.”

Each player has different motivations for playing football. Having something or someone that motivates you as player, allows you to work harder to strengthen your craft.

“What motivates me is my love for the game and also my teammates and coaches that push me.”

Navarro is entering his senior year. According to 247sports.com, he has several colleges interested in him and currently has ten official offers.

“I will go and play football after high school.”

In order to get better as a football player, you have to study and watch some best players that play the game. To become a great football player, you have to learn and see what it takes to become great.

“I don’t know who I would compare myself to.”
