DITR: Benny Williams (Bay High School, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi)

Our newest Diamond in the Rough is class of 2024 Running Back and Middle Linebacker, Benny “Batman” Williams. Benny is 6’2 182 lbs, he runs a 4.8 forty yard dash, benches 305 lbs, squats 525 lbs, power cleans 280 lbs, and deadlifts 435 lbs. Benny is coming off of a season where he mainly played defensive end and recorded 6 sacks. He will be transitioning to a role as a rb/mlb. He made 2nd Team All District last season and was voted as the teams most valuable defensive lineman.

When did you start playing football?

“I didn’t start playing football until my Sophomore year.”

What is your favorite thing about football?

“Just having the chance to play the game, I truly love it.”

What is the hardest part about football?

“Taking losses can be hard, we had a few too many for me last year and I just want to learn from them and move on.”

What is something you have learned through football?

“That football takes leadership, it is important to be a leader not a follower.”

Do you play any other sports?

“Yes I run track, I run the 100M, 4x200M, long jump, and the 200M. I am also on the powerlifting team.”

Who is you favorite college football team?

“I don’t necessarily have a specific favorite college team, I just enjoy watching it.”

Who is your favorite NFL Team?

“My favorite team is the San Francisco 49ers.”

Who is you biggest role model in life?

“My grandfather, he has acted like a father figure for me, he has taught me how to be a man and how to know right from wrong.”

Do you have any players that you like to watch and emulate your game after?

“I have a few including Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey, Bobby Wagner, and Will Anderson.”

How do you balance school and football?

“I just try to get my work done before practice so I don’t have to worry about it after.”

How do you prepare for a game?

“For me music is crucial, it allows me to get hyped up to go out and take the field.”

What is your best skillset as a player?

“My quickness off the ball, I have really excelled in my timing and my get off which compliments my explosiveness off the ball.”

Do you have any goals for the upcoming season?

“I would like a playoff berth and to be district champs this next season.”

What does it mean to be a good teammate?

“It is important to listen to what coach is telling us, it is also important to make relationships with the whole team, and to know what everyones job is. You never know when they may call your name to do a job that you weren’t supposed to be doing originally.”

What does your team need to do as a whole in order to reach your goals?

“We just need to come together as one, if we can be united and go out and play some ball we will see plenty of success.”
