Teams cannot win if they do not play as one unit or together. Playing football requires you to play as a team, not one individual can carry a team to victory. Being a good teammate is important to a team’s success.

“A good teammate is always there for everyone when they need it, even if it’s at school or at practice. Staying motivated and passionate about the sport. But overall give everything you have for the person next to you.”

ATH Derek Weisskopf – when asked about what makes a good teammate.

According to Gabe Brooks, a National Scouting Analysis for 247sports, last season Derek produced incredible numbers with 37-628-12 receiving, plus 60 tackles, 4.5 TFL, and six INTs (one TD). Derek and the Williamsburg Raiders went to the state championship in the 2022- 23 season. Even with the tremendous effort by Derek all season long, the Williamsburg Raiders season came to a heartbreaking end with a close loss in the championship game.

“I learned that I needed to work on something so I could help my team win the state title. I also learned that just because our team isn’t the biggest, I know I can trust all my teammates laying on the line for me, giving heart, and caring for the person next to you.”

Each player has different motivations for playing football. Having something that motivates you as player, allows you to work harder to strengthen your craft.

“The thing that motivates me the most is that I know going to play at the University of Iowa as a freshman is really hard, so just putting that extra work in to climb that mountain to maybe start as a freshman.”

ATH Derek Weisskopf – When asked about what motivates him to play or get better.

Derek is entering his senior year of high school. He recently committed to the University of Iowa to play football.

“My plans are to attend the University of Iowa and get a degree.”

ATH Derek Weisskopf – When asked about his plans after High School.

In order to get better as a football player, you have to study and watch some best players that play the game. To become a great football player, you have to learn and see what it takes to become great.

“I would compare myself to Jack Campbell, he is an amazing dude that goes out on the field and plays every snap like it’s his last. He is a very humble, caring, and passionate guy. I want to be the next linebacker from the university of Iowa that wins the Butkus award and to be an All American.”
