Diamond in the Rough: Ben Patterson

Ben Patterson is a 6’5, 210 pound receiver from Georgia Knights Prep Academy in Snellville, GA. Ben possesses some of the rare qualities that you find all in one guy. To match his frame, Ben runs a 4.4 40 and tops it off with strong hands, grabbing anything in his radius. He displayed the ability to run pretty much every route efficiently, often times running right by defenders using pure length and speed. Off the field, Ben boasts a 3.8 GPA. He is certainly a guy that’s slept on and flying under the radar in this 2022 class. He’s ready to make a difference in a program at the next level.

When did you start playing football?

I started playing in second grade. I watched football with my dad on Sunday’s, fell in love with the game early on, and decided I wanted to play.

How can you be a difference maker at the next level?

I feel like with my size and speed I can make plays that not a lot of other players can make. I’m taller then a lot of receivers but I can still move and run routes better then shorter wideouts.

What are some hobbies you have outside of football?

I like to play video games and laugh and talk with my family.

What was your favorite moment from your senior season?

I’d for sure say making it to the playoffs and making a run all the way to the state semifinals. The game came down to the wire but we ended up losing 35-30.

What are your greatest strengths on the field?

My size and ability to make 50/50 catches. My route running ability and I’m a good blocker.

What players do you study and try to imitate on the field?

I love watching Calvin Johnson highlights. When I first got into football he was who I wanted to be like. He’s 6’5, can move, and when the ball is in the air he can make plays. I also watch Larry Fitzgerald. The consistency he played with at a high level for such a long time is mind boggling to me. You could count on him every Sunday to make plays.

Now that your high school career has come to an end, how do you want to be remembered by your teammates and coaches?

I want to be remembered as someone who gave their all on the field no matter what. If a play needed to be made to win the game, I would make it.

Who are your biggest motivators for playing the game?

My mom. Just striving to make sure she is set for life. Right after that my family, my brothers. I play for them every time I step out on the field?
