In this weeks Quarterfinals matchup, The St. Thomas More Cougars (5) come to Olympia Stadium to take on the Liberty Patriots (4) in a star studded matchup to see who will advance to the Semifinals of the LHSAA Division II bracket.
Last week, Liberty got past Archbishop Hannan in a 40-28 victory in which the Patriot offense accounted for nearly 400 yards just on the ground. An outstanding performance from Kaleb Jackson, who had 239 rushing yards and four touchdowns, proved to be the difference maker in this matchup. Khylan Gross also shouldered some of the load for the Patriot offense. After two first half turnovers, Gross went on to total 118 passing yards along with 122 rushing yards and a touchdown in each category.
That being said, Liberty’s defense also played a big role in their first round win. Lester Jones was a force, totaling 20 tackles along with 3 sacks and 3 tackles for loss. Jordan Okoye also had a strong performance in sealing this victory with 14 tackles and an interception. This defense will be the focal point against Walker Howard and the St. Thomas More offense who put up 56 points against Evangel Christian Academy in their first round victory.
