Delpit Named To Nagurski Finalist List

LSU safety Grant Delpit was recently named one of the finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, it is presented annually and spotlights the best defensive player in college football.

He is joined by Michigan linebacker Devin Bush, Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen, Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, and Alabama nose guard Quinnen Williams.

Grant Delpit currently leads LSU and the SEC in interceptions and comes in at number 2 nationally with five. He also has a league high 11 passes broken up, and has notched five sacks on the season.  Through 10 games, Delpit has recorded 63 tackles to go along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

LSU’s defensive unit has been very stingy this season allowing only 16.7 points and 343.3 yards a game. They have only given up one first quarter touchdown all season, they have forced at least one turnover in every game this year and currently rank 9th in the nation with 22.

Glenn Dorsey was the last recipient from LSU to claim the Nagurski Trophy in 2007 after helping the Tigers get to a 12-2 season and the third national title in scholl history.

The Nagurski Trophy winner will be chosen from the five finalists listed above by the FWAA All-American Committee after voting ends from the entire association.
