D.I.T.R.: McCoy Bruce

McCoy Bruce is a 5’11” 175 lbs. WR and CB for Boerne High School. McCoy is a high IQ defensive back who was a key contributor for this Greyhounds team. On defense, he had 4 INT’s along with 70 total tackles and 3 TFL’s. He has a nose for the ball, and is not afraid of contact, much like the cornerback he idolizes, Sauce Gardner. On offense, he added in a couple of catches so playing receiver helps him prepare as a cornerback. He also added in 122 kick return yards showing how much he can play on the field. When did you start playing football?

I played flag football in 1st or 2nd grade

What is your favorite thing about playing football?

The brotherhood bond I have with my teammates

What have you learned the most from your coach?

How to be a true teammate, and how to push my teammates to be their best

What is your favorite football memory?

Beating Chapel Hill last year, and seeing all my teammates so happy to make the state championship game

What sports do you play outside of football?

Track, I do the pole vault and hurdles

Sauce Gardner, with his footwork and his control

What is your favorite NFL team?

Kansas City Chiefs

Who do you consider to be your role model?

My dad, he helps me with what is right and wrong, and he is a great man

How do you balance school and football?

I put school first over football, kinda hard sometimes but I get it done

How do you prepare yourself for a game?

I think of the game beforehand, and not joking around during pre games. I imagine myself playing in that game, and watch film of my opponents

What is your favorite pre/post-game meal?

A burrito with rice and chicken fajitas inside it from Freebirds

What is the best aspect of your game?

My football IQ, and understanding what the receiver is going to do pre snap

What separates you from others?

My work ethic, trying to work harder than everyone else since someone else is probably outworking me. My motto is “Don’t be sad when you don’t get the results from doing the work”

What is your definition of being a good teammate?

Keeping the encouragement with my team since it can go a long way.
