Catholic High was able to regroup from last week’s loss with a statement 31-14 victory tonight against West Monroe. The Bears, now sitting at 3-1, can now go into their bye week on a high note as they look to recoup and continue their potentially great season. This was a game against a more than formidable opponent in West Monroe, that Catholic needed to win and they were able to do that with
In tonight’s game, there was a very run-centered scheme from both teams. Because of this, Bears, Rylan Parker was able to shine at the running-back position. Three first half touchdowns, along with many key and crucial runs throughout the early portion of game were able to allow the Bears to get up to a 28-7 lead by halftime. Other key contributions were from Quarterback Baylor Graves and Wideout Beau Thomas, who connected with each other for the teams 4th TD.
As kick off started, Bears Cohen LeBlanc nearly ran the first kick back for a TD. However, he was stopped short and Rylan Parker was able to get in the end zone for his first. After this, West Monroe were able to drive right back down the field and score to tie the game up. A QB sneak from Ryder DeJean was able to get it to 7-7. West Monroe’s other TD was from Kedrian Mcneil in the 3rd.
After the big lead in the first half, the Bears were able to cruise throughout the second half, relying on their defense to consistently get stop for them. They were able to get exactly that with big contributions from senior corner backs, Cayden Jones and Jacob Bradford, who each played big roles in anchoring the secondary along with the entire defense in itself.
Coming into tonight match up, Catholic was the 4th ranked team in the entire state of Louisiana. The way that they were able to play tonight justified that ranking, but they are not satisfied. With a unique culture to High School football, where games feel like college games, this is a team that wants to and very well could win back-to-back state championships.
After the game, I was able to talk to both Coach Fuller and Rylan Parker.
“Really proud of our team for the way they responded this week in practice, the way that they stick together. I feel like we played physical, which was a big point of emphasis for us. I think we played together and I’m really proud of the way all these guys showed up together and I’m excited to move forward for the rest of this season.”
Coach Fuller when asked how he thought his team played
“Leadership. 100%”
Coach Fuller when asked how they were able to bounce back from last weeks loss
“We’re going to do a self scout of ourselves in all three phases, and asses our tendencies. We’re going to asses what we need to improve on, what we’re going to focus on moving forward, and be able to put ourselves in a position to practice to improve for the rest of the season.”
Coach Fuller when asked what can we expect to see during the team’s bye week.
“I played good, thankful for the Lord man.”
Rylan Parker when asked how he thought he played
“I wouldn’t say it’s heartbreaking(last weeks loss), we just got back to the pen and just got back to work. We just have to put our head’s down and just get back to putting it all together.”

Overall, this was a great win for the Catholic Bears. This is a much needed win as they go into the bye at 3-1 and come out of the bye to play 1-3 Liberty Magnet on the road. Meanwhile, 2-2 West Monroe looks to bounce back against 2-4 Scotlandville next week as they host them.
