BREAKING NEWS: McDonogh 35 High School (New Orleans, La.) LB Peyton McFarland has committed to the 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl

McDonogh 35 High School (New Orleans, La.) outside linebacker Peyton McFarland has committed to play in the 2023 Gridiron All-American Bowl.

McFarland recorded 173 total tackles and 38 sacks throughout his career and those numbers could have been higher if he didn’t miss five games during his junior year due to injury. In his senior season, McFarland recorded 73 total tackles, 27 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and an interception. For his performance, he was a second team All-State selection by the Louisiana Football Coaches Association.

“It means a lot to be picked to play in a game with so many good players around the state because not everybody gets picked to do things like this.”

It’s no surprise that McFarland has been excellent his whole entire career not only because of his quickness and strength off the edge but because he was mentored by one of the best defensive coaches in the state, McDonogh 35 head coach Frank Daggs.

“Coach Daggs is responsible for my attitude that I developed which is: being coachable on the sideline and at practice, putting in my mind that the coach will always want whats best for you, and to show no remorse on the field when i’m lined up against anyone.”

McFarland has picked up scholarship offers from both Arkansas State and Louisiana Christian. He also has gotten interest from Alcorn State, Nicholls, Northwestern State, South Alabama, Southern, Tulane and UL-Lafayette.

His two favorite players to watch are LSU linebacker Harold Perkins and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt because they are “both relentless, quick and are great at disrupting the play.”

Join Peyton and the rest of our players for the 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which will be played at Memorial Stadium on December 30th at 6:00 P.M.
