DeCurvian Ellerbe currently attends Neville Junior High and is part of the class of 2030. He recently participated in the Neville High School camp, where he had the opportunity to develop his football skills and compete at a higher level. As a running back, he has already made an impact on the field, recording around 11 touchdowns and over 1,000 rushing yards. In the weight room, he has achieved a bench press max of 225 pounds, though he is currently at 205 due to focusing on track, along with a squat max of 315 and a clean of 205. He shared that his main goals are to improve his speed and develop better skill moves to elevate his performance. In addition to his athletic success, he maintains a strong academic record with a 4.0 GPA, which he has upheld throughout the entire school year.

What goals do you have for your upcoming season?
” I want 20 touchdowns, don’t really care about the yards but I want at least 1,000. Also I want an undefeated season.”
What made you start playing football?
” Runs in the family. Couldn’t be the one who didn’t pursue the same dream. Also wanna be the first to make it to the next level after college.”
How has football shaped your plans for the future?
” Football has shaped my dreams for the future pretty well. I know what i’m aiming for and i’m ready to overcome all obstacles.”
What was your favorite drill?
” Don’t really have a favorite drill but I do love to scrimmage.”
What skill do you think is most important for your position?
” I think being all around running back is most important for my position. You need to be able to run, block, and be physical.”
How do you handle pressure during critical moments in a game?
” To be honest I handle pressure pretty well, but I do have to work on controlling my attitudes when losing in a game because no one likes losing but it happens.”
What’s the best advice a coach has given you?
” ‘Do your job’ is the best advice i’ve received from a coach.”
What are your biggest stregnths?
” My biggest strengths are being a physical and hard working player, and encouraging others but also reassuring others when they mess up. “
How do you balance football with schoolwork and other activities?
” I don’t really have to balance it out. I complete most of my work at school. So, when I get home it’s all work, cones, weighs, running, and ladder drills. “
How important is academics to you as a student athlete?
” Academics is really important to me as a student athlete, I like having all A’s because anything under isn’t the best, and I want to be the best.”
