Coming off a heartbreaking loss in the semi-finals last year, the St.Martin Saints look to make a return this year. While having a tremendous season last year going 9-2, the Saints suffered a devastating loss to Riverside Academy in the semi-finals. The Saints Have had a tremendous start to the season so far going undefeated in their first three games. The Saints look to continue their success with their upcoming game. Head Coach Kevin Dizer is excited to get the season started and to see his team in action. Over the Summer they have been putting in work and it has been translating on the field well.
Coach Dizer has had a very productive summer with getting his team bigger, faster, and stronger everything they do is intentional. Near the end of the summer, they ran some new installs on both sides of the ball and have seen great success with that and Coach Dizer says that’s a key for them to succeed.
we’ve got installs that we’ve gotten done on both sides of the ball even special teams So getting all that stuff done, we’re in a good spot.

In the spring they do not do much as players are focused on the other sports they play. Coach Dizer loves to see other sports teams succeed. He also wants them to focus on their exams in the spring because Hammond is such an academic school exams are almost like a state championship there. Coach Dizer then when on to talk about some key players to look out for this year. Ashton Oliver is their QB and very talented. This elite player was a huge part of their success last year, especially his running game. He also played safety as well last year and made some huge plays for them. Unfortunately, this young star is heavily overshadowed by the media. Cooper Helmke is one of the best kickers in the country, he has an absolute rocket of a foot with 95% of his kickoffs resulting in touchbacks. Unfortunately he doesn’t have a lot of attempts to kick a field go as coach Dizer like to go for it on fourth and short so this young man really shines during kickoffs. Offensive lineman and defensive lineman, Zach Kelly, has impressed Coach Dizer over the summer and he expects Kelly will really have a breakout year to get himself noticed.
He is an elite kickoff guy. over 95 % on a touch back rate. We don’t kick a lot of field goals because if it’s fourth and two, you think I’m kicking a field goal or giving it to Harlem. So we don’t kick a lot of field goals, but he is an elite kickoff guy.

Daniel Fink is a senior at St. Martin, he’s a triple threat playing center, D-tackle, And D-end. He is most excited to play with his team one last time and for him, the last time playing competitively. His biggest strength is his ability to run block. Over the summer he’s been learning to be center and working on his pass block. When asked what is like to block for a a great QB, Daniel had the perfect response.
I mean, He really just makes the job easy for us, because you have to block for two seconds in then the ball is 10 yards downfield, which makes it an easy for us.

Zach Kelly plays nose guard and left guard and is a 5’11” 265lbs senior this year at St.Martin. He has been grinding this summer and putting in time in the weight room. When he’s not practicing he’s studying plays and getting everything down. Zach is focused on staying strong on the line and getting a lot of wins.

Ashton Oliver is the QB for the St.Martin Saints. This Senior not only plays QB but also free safety. This QB has all the confidence in the world in his O-line and all the work he’s seen them do throughout the summer has really been excited to get the year started. Getting a Ring and really just improving his game to the next level this year is really important for Ashton.
I just want to improve in every category I can. You know, rushing, passing, tackling, just want to prove everywhere. I want to be the best.

Cole Lacoste is a senior and plays D-end and right tackle for the Saints. This is Cole’s first year playing offense so over the summer he really worked on technique and form so he would be ready for the season. When asked what his thoughts were on playing with their star running back Harlem Berry he had this to say.
It’s great playing with him. Even if the play breaks down, He usually somehow finds a way to get around all the defenders and score.
