#13 Istrouma Stuns Undefeated #4 Haynes Academy 42-16

Starting off before the game, the Istrouma Indians did not get into the stadium until about thirty minutes till kickoff, due to some very bad Metairie traffic. Even with a slight set back for the Indians, the game kicks off, and the Indians said we wanna see what this four seed is made out of and they differed to the second half. Haynes Academy runs a very weird offense, it is jumbo package that it either goes to the RB or the QB for a run, and the first drive of the game, the Indian’s defense gobbled up any sort of breakthrough, and even forced a turnover on downs right about at midfield. To kick off the Istrouma offense Kyree Paul starts them off with a two yard gain, then on the next play the star runningback fumbles, and recovered by Haynes. Just like the first drive for Haynes it was not going anywhere and the Indians force a punt. This drive starts out much different than the first with Kyree Paul breaking out a 17 yard run to kickstart the drive, then 4 plays later quarterback Frank Alexander hits NickZavier Johnson for a 38 yard touchdown to start the Indians off, with a wildcat keeper by Kyree Paul the two point attempt was good, starting the Indians up 8-0. Again for the Haynes offense they have yet to get any points on the board, and this still happens for their third drive of the game, and Istrouma forces them to punt. Out of the punt, Kyree Paul shows why he is the star of this Istrouma team, Kyree hit Haynes with a one-two punch starting the drive with a 17 yard and then a 13 yard run plus another 15 with a personal foul on Haynes to get the Indians inside the ten yard line, and he started the drive and end the drive Kyree Paul punches it in for the touchdown, then he proceeds to get into the endzone again on the two point right at the start of the second quarter to go up 16-0.

Second quarter was kicked off with that Kyree Paul touchdown. After what it looked like their offense was gonna be negated the whole time, Haynes finally responds with a 49 yard touchdown by Lochlen Claverie, and he also punches it in for the two point attempt. This will be the closest the game with be all night. Kyree Paul right out of the kickoff breaks away for a 53 yard touchdown, two point was no good though, to go up 22-8. Istrouma defense rallied again to force a punt. Finally, the Istrouma offense took advantage of the questionable Haynes defense, by forcing the ball to NickZavier Johnson for a 15 yard gain, even with a slip on the route, the Indians went back to NickZavier, and he turns what should have been a 10 yard gain into a 34 yard reception to set them up for a easy 4 yard rush by Carmello Daigre to punch in the touchdown, with Daigre getting the two point conversion as well, to go up 30-8. The Indian’s defense was all over Haynes this game, forcing another turnover on downs, and just like the last few drives by Istrouma it was capped off with a 37 yard double pass touchdown David Johnson to Dyion Chavers, with a no good on the two point attempt, Indians up 36-8. Indians again force another punt, this time the punt was deep into Indian territory, and a throw that should not have been made, Frank Alexander made a bonehead throw that the linebacker was baiting and he picked it off by Carter Sternberger, Indians stuff them on the two point conversion, but this possible gave Haynes some life, but that was the end of the second half, 36-14.

The Indians definitely took the foot off the gas to start the second half, Kyree Paul did not touch the field in the second half once, the first drive by Istrouma was almost a great drive due to the great running of Eric Knox, with some bully runs right down the throat of the Haynes defense, highlighting a 29 yard run by Knox, unfortunately a bad snap forced a fumble, and recovered by Haynes to possible ride off that pick six momentum, unfortunately the defense for Istrouma did not bend not allowing any sort of life the whole second half. Istrouma first three drives, all resulted in turnover and who they play next week cannot happen. The rest of the third quarter was both teams either dominating on defense or turnovers that killed drives, no points were scored in the third game remained 36-14.

The Indian defense was the MVP of this game, not allowing more than two touchdowns against this team that has put up a lot of points every game they have played. Finally after the Istrouma defense forced a turnover on down, Istrouma finally get some more points on the board, with a 43 yard screen pass touchdown to the MVP of last weeks game David Johnson, no good on the two point but, Indians up 42-14, which would be the last touchdown of the game. Again defense for the Indians did not allow anymore points after that single touchdown. A highlight for Istrouma was 40 yard run by Jacob Roberts, but since the backups were in for the Indians on offense, just to chew clock. Haynes finally having to change things up finally take a chance on one of their four passes in the game, unfortunately only throwing four times in the regular season catches up in the spotlight, with a interception by Justin Williams, to basically put the game away, but after a personal foul blindside block, it backed the Indians up inside their own 5, and with the backups in some errors snapping and handing off, caused a punt to happen at one, and fortunately the blocked punt was recovered by the Indians but it was in the endzone and Haynes gets two points on the safety. The rest of the game was just chew clock and nothing big happened with about a 1:30 left in the game. Final score being 46-16.

After the game Head Coach Sid Edwards, compared this team to Alice in Wonderland, because now they are sliding down the chute, to a place they have never been before, which was the quarter finals, going against either Madison Prep or St. Charles.
