Before we move on to this week for our Gridiron Football Player of Week 13, let’s recognize the Gridiron Football Player of Week 12, which that honor belongs to Denham Springs High School (Denham Springs, LA) safety Anjel Moreaux.
Despite the Yellow Jackets’ 44-21 loss to the Zachary Broncos in the Division I Non-Select playoffs, Moreaux had a great outing against the Broncos posting nine total tackles, two tackles for loss, and two pass breakups, which is an impressive feat playing at a position that is not known for stuffing the stat sheet.
“I think I played well and put on a good show. There were definitely a few plays I should’ve capitalized on, but I was proud of myself for not letting those negatives discourage me.”

Along with his performance, Moreaux got to be the Gridiron Football Player of the Week also because of the fan vote getting a total of 21,034 votes.
“It meant so much to me. In the fact that I was being recognized for my talents. On side of that, I got to see my village be able to support me by voting for me so much so it was just overall heartwarming.”

Moreaux helped the Yellow Jackets have one of their best seasons yet sharing a district championship and an overall 8-3 record. This season, he had 77 tackles, 2 TFLs, 2 INTs, and 7 PBUs.
“This senior year was by far my favorite and most productive year. Every game I tried my hardest so I am satisfied with my play regardless of the outcome. I wouldn’t trade them boys from this year’s team for anything.”

At 6’3, 170 pounds with 4.59/40 speed and also a state champion high jumper, the Denham Springs defensive back has a lot of athletic measurables.
“My size and my ability to cover ground are my biggest strengths plus my vision. Half the time, being in the right place is the most important thing in football and I think I do a good job of that.”

The combination of athleticism and his attention to detail has definitely attracted the attention of Southeastern Louisiana University as the Lions recently offered Moreaux.
“Getting the offer from Southeastern meant the world to me. It showed me that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. Going DI out of my previous school almost seemed like a pipe dream so by getting the offer, I showed myself that all this hard work hasn’t been for nothing.”

For Anjel Moreaux, he hopes that this Southeastern offer can jump start a chain reaction for other schools to also offer him for his services.
“To all of the college coaches in contact and following my process, don’t sleep on me. I’m a ball player with the grades and mind to match. All I need is the opportunity and stage to make plays.”
