We at Gridiron would like to offer a warm welcome to Darion Mccrary the CB out of the class of 2026. Darion is a quick Cornerback that thrives in 1-on-1 coverage with receivers due to his good positioning, active hands and quick burst off his first step. Although he may not have size that jumps off the page at 5’9 160 lbs. Darion is a hustle player that doesn’t give up on plays. He is also a versatile player competing defensively and on special teams as both a gunner and a returner. At returner Darion has good patience and field vision to go along with his speed. Darion is a great DB that although done with his high school career intends to continue to compete in football at the next level and we at Gridiron wish him well.
Here’s my interview with Darion below!
What got you into football?
Growing up I just always played sports. I got into football at a very young age like 5 or 6 and my dad he played sports so it was always around.
What play or moment made you pick your position?
I was at a travel football game and I was playing wide receiver and the QB threw a bad ball and I took a hit that I didn’t want to take. It just made me realize that DB was a better fit for me.
Was there a player that you tried to emulate?
I wouldn’t say that I would just say I was a big fan of guys like Jalen Ramsey.
What’s your strongest football attribute?
My ball-hawking ability and my patience.
What differentiates you from the rest?
My patience and that my size doesn’t stop me from being a dog on the field.
Dream football college?
If I could pick any college it would either be LSU or Houston.
Who would you compare your playstyle to?
I’ll compare myself to Jaire Alexander cause he’s one of the smaller cornerbacks but he uses his size well on the field.
Favorite part about football?
My favorite part is the joy it brings me and I just like the contact. Football brings me a feeling that nothing else brings to me.
Favorite football player?
Jalen Ramsey, I like that he can play anywhere on the field and he’ll be effective. He can play in the box, he can play outside, he can play in the slot, he’s gonna be effective anywhere and he’s got that dog in him.
What’s your biggest motivator?
My dad, he motivates me everyday to keep going and don’t let nothing stop me. Even when something goes bad he always turns me to good and keeps me going.
Underrated or underappreciated part about football?
Just guys working hard everyday, taking hits everyday, and still coming into work the next day 100%.
