Louisiana 49, Grambling 17
UL head coach Billy Napier won his first game as the leader of the Cajuns last night in a true dominate fashion. The Cajuns were firing on all eight cylinders. Except on a few plays, the offense moved the ball very well, both in the passing game led by Andre Nunez with 19-22 with 184 yards and 2 TDs with another 21 yards rushing and a TD. Trey Ragas led the ground crew with 13 carries for 142 yards and a TD.
For me, I thought the most improved part of the team was the defense. Coach Ron Roberts has transformed that defense from last season, who couldn’t stop or even slow down a run game to save their lives. Last night, the Cajun defense only gave up 147 yards rushing and 159 yards passing.
I was impressed by the play of Grambling’s QB Geremy Hickbottom. As you may recall, Geremy turned down an offer to play at Bama to play for the G-men. On his first drive last night, he had a huge pass of 47 yards to Quintin Guice. In total he went 8-18 for 112 yards in the game while also leading the team in rushing with 52 yards with a TD on 5 carries.
This was a phenomenal game, and if you missed the game, then don’t miss either teams next matchups. UL will travel to Mississippi State next week and Grambling will play another in-state rival, Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La.
