Earlier this preseason, there was a featured story on Gridiron Football’s website about the U-High Cubs’ 1-2 punch at running back in Sage Ingram and Corbin Odell also known as “Fire and Ice.” The performance by Ingram and Odell was indeed icy hot with both running backs combining for 211 yards and three touchdowns on the ground with Ingram scoring once and Odell scoring twice in a 49-8 win over Woodlawn.
“Sage is an amazing running back. I am an amazing running back so you can’t really get a break on defense. He goes in and he is going to destroy. I go in and I am going to destroy. That’s the way it is going to be.”

“It’s a blessing to have both of us back there in the backfield together. It’s unstoppable.”

Lawson Dixon was the first player to get the scoring started as he weaved his way on a screen pass for a touchdown to give the U-High Cubs a 7-0 lead.
“We have been telling everybody all year and nobody got to see it because he got hurt, but he is special. You saw it on that play. He made four to five guys miss tackles. It is great to have him out there because he is another weapon for us.”
U-High HC Andy Martin
The Cubs were able to take advantage of a high snap on fourth down by Woodlawn and punch in a 10 yard touchdown run from Odell, who also scored on the two-point conversion to give U-High a 15-0 lead.
Give credit to Woodlawn early on as they were hanging tough with U-High. After a 49-yard pass from Ahmad Price to Trinton Bennett, Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game invitee Cayden Randall was able to punch in a touchdown and also trucked a U-High defender on the two-point conversion to pull within seven at 15-8.
However, that was as close as it could get with the Cubs scoring 34 unanswered points. Mason Melancon made a couple of field goals.
Lane Mixon was able to scoop a fumbled snap for a 39 yard touchdown along with touchdown runs from both Odell and Ingram to complete the scoring.
The Panthers had the ability to show that they could hang in the game at times as the passing game was a spotlight with Jaiden Robinson and Trinton Bennett being standouts. Unfortunately, it was seven fumbles and high snaps that prevented Woodlawn from executing those drives.
U-High head coach Andy Martin was pleased with how his defense played and how unselfish the team as a whole played.
The victory was even sweeter for the Cubs knowing that bad field conditions and bad weather made it a 3-0 win over Woodlawn last year.
“It is nice to have a field that you can run on. These guys work hard. I am so proud of what they can do every single day. The strength of this team is that they are a team. They don’t care of who gets the glory. It’s a great team and it has been a pleasure to coach them in the offseason.”

The U-High Cubs will start the season 1-0 and will have a tough task in the historic Superdome as they will take on the Rummel Raiders.
For Tramon Douglas and the Woodlawn Panthers, they start the season 0-1 and will hope to get Baylor DE commit Tyrone Morgan, who missed the game with an injury. The Panthers will look to bounce back next week against Walker next Friday.
