TYLER, Texas – North Texas quarterback, Mason Fine has been named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the first week of the college football season.
In a 46-23 win over SMU, Fine completed 40-of-50 passes for a career-high 444 yards (fifth-most in a single game in program history) and three touchdowns with no interceptions. His 444 passing yards were the most by any FBS quarterback this week. The 40 completions, besides being a career high, also tied for the third-most in a single game in program history. Fine picked up right where he left off during his sensational sophomore campaign to help lead the Mean Green to their eighth consecutive home win, which dates back to November 19, 2016 (Southern Miss). Fine opened 8-for-8 and connected with 10 different receivers in the win.
“His eyes were in the right spot. He played very confidently and saw the field very well. They were doing some different things with their fronts and bringing different pressures, and I thought he saw it very well. The way he was getting the ball out of his hands and reading the defense, he’s looked as good as he’s looked since I’ve been here. That’s the work he’s put in in the off season. I’m very confident in him to go out and manage the game for us and play at a high level,” Head Coach Seth Littrell said about Fine’s performance.
Mason Fine is a graduate of Locust Grove High School in Peggs, Oklahoma.
